David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido is arguably one of the fast rising artistes. He became popular with his debut song, Back When, which features Naeto C –and now the 19 year-old undergraduate of Babcock University is back with another hit entitled, Dami Duro.
On Friday, November 25, 2011, the Man O Gere crooner spoke with ENCOMIUM Weekly about the journey so far. He denied being a chronic smoker.
Your song, Back When is one of the hottest singles now, how do you feel seeing it doing this good?
It feels very great. We put in hard work and now everything is visible. I feel very good about it.
What was the inspiration behind the song?
I was just having fun in the studio and came up with those catchy lyrics. There is not much of a story behind it.
What’s the title of your new single?
Dami Duro.
When should we be expecting your album?
Sometime next year.
What would you call the kind of music you do?
I do it all, from techno to afrobeat and fuji. I am very versatile.
Do you see Wizkid as a threat?
No, I don’t. We are very good friends. I like his works.
What record label are you with?
I am signed on to Black Diamond Promotions, but I still own a label imprint, HKN Music.
You seem to be very close to Saucekid. Are you planning a collabo with him?
Yes, we already have one called Carolina. We should be shooting the video very soon.
How true is it that you and Saucekid always smoke heavily when you hang out together?
I don’t smoke.
Your parents are very well-to-do, why did you decide to go into music?
Passion, that is what I love doing.
How did your parents react when you wanted to go into music?
It wasn’t easy at all. My dad was very upset but we settled everything and now he knows what’s up.
Brief history of your background?
I am 19 years old. I was in Oakwood University in America but I was transferred to Babcock University. I am in 300 level now.
Do you have a girlfriend?
No.
In five years, where would Davido be?
Touring the world by God’s grace.
Tell us the craziest thing a female fan has done to you?
Sending me credit every day for a whole week.
Most embarrassing moment?
P-Square’s Invasion. I was performing and the music went off.
Apart from P-Square’s Invasion Concert, what other events have you performed?
Almost every big show, from the Koko Concert in London to the Ice Prince album launch, Music Meets Runway, to Felabration. So many shows. We thank God Almighty.
Who are the artistes you would love to work with?
Don Jazzy, D’Banj and Flavour.
Some artistes release few singles these days and we don’t hear from them again. Hope it’s not going to be that way with you?
No, it won’t. I would try my best not to disappoint my fans. It’s going to be from one hit to the other and so on.
