Day 32 of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State Command 2019 Ember months Special Patrol/ January 2020 operations

FUEL SITUATION: Normal

SECURITY SITUATIONS: An incident occurred yesterday 14 January 2020 at about 1030hrs on the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway when a senior Officer of the Corps on routine monitoring of the corridor noticed a vehicle driving against traffic but immediately the driver driving against traffic sighted the FRSC vehicle, gripped by fear he swerved and faced the vehicle on coming behind the FRSC’s Vehicle. This made the driver of the FRSC’s vehicle pulled over.
to prevent the situation escalating
In the process, a speeding motorcycle riding with a pillion (passenger) momentarily loss control of the speeding motorbike but immediately he stabilised, he stopped and parked the bike and went straight to attack the FRSC’s team.
While the motorcycle rider went for the windshield (windscreen) of the FRSC’s vehicle with registration number C0180RS, which he slammed heavily with his fist and wilfully got the windshield broken, the pilion on his own went for one of the Marshals and attacked him vigorously.
Not satisfied they both went to attack other members of the FRSC Team before the two violent motocyclists were overpowered and handed over to the DPO Warewa Police Station.

TRAFFIC SITUATIONS The traffic inward Lagos on the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway have started building up due to the resumption of diversion around the Ogun River (KARA) Bridge section of the corridor .

As at time of reporting traffic have built passed the Long Bridge inward Lagos due to the activities of motorists plying the alternative routes beside the Long Bridge, and trying to enter the U-turn at OPIC thereby blocking the free flow of vehicles inward Lagos. While the FRSC is managing the situation, the Corps has contacted JBN, the construction company to completely bloc the alternative route for streamlined traffic.
The process of blocking the alternative route this morning has commenced.

Despite repeated warnings not to drive against traffic ,some stubborn drivers still went ahead to drive against the flow of traffic . Some arrests have been made and this would continue untill the unwholesome practice is finally stopped .
Law abiding motorists are enjoined not to yeild the right of way to vehicles driving against traffic. Where available the evidence, including capturing the registration number of the erring vehicle should be availed the nearest FRSC formation or team for such Indisciplined motorist(s) to be punished .

Other than the scenario above ,all the corridors are moving freely as at the time of reporting.

The traffic on other road corridors in Ogun State, though heavy ,are moving freely , “including the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway; Sagamu – Ìjẹ̀bú-Òde; Sagamu – Mosinmi – Ikorodu; Abeokuta – Ibadan; Abeokuta – Ọ̀tà-Lagos and Ota – Idiroko international corridors. All the corridors have free and moving traffic, except around the aforementioned construction areas.

Ogun State road Corridors are also safe as at time of reporting.

ROAD TRAFFIC CRASHES :
A total of five road traffic crashes were recorded yesterday Tuesday 14 January, 2020 across Ogun State

The first crash occurred along the Abeokuta – Lagos Expressway around the old Toll Gate at Ota in the early hours of the day at about 0035hrs
People involved in the crash were 5, all Male Adults.
The people injured were 02 Male Adults.
No death was recorded. 02 vehicles were involved, a black coloured MAN DISEAL TRUCK with registration number FST534XC and an ash coloured DANGOTE TRUCK with registration number GN6467-16.
The suspected cause of the crash was mechanical deficiency due to brake failure. The injured victims were rescued to the General Hospital, Ota for medical treatments.

The second crash occured at about 0345hrs along the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway around the old Tollgate at Ota .
People involved were 05, which comprised 04 Male Adults and 01 Female Adult.
01 person was recorded dead from the crash, a Male Adult, while 04 other persons sustained injuries, comprising 01 Female Adult and 03 Male Adults.
The multiple crash involved 07 vehicles the following details .
The first vehicle is with registration number AGL76XV , a MARK TRUCK
,(b) KJA555XP. M/BENZ
(c)LAR355WM boxer motorcycle (d) TTD O67 UJ, a boxer motorcycle (e)BDG367 XF , a yellow coloured BUS
(f) YA 226AAA , a yellow coloured VOLKSWAGEN LT Bus and finally a motorcycle without registration number.
The injured victims were rescued to the General Hospital Ota for medical attention and the corpse of the killed victim was deposited at same General Hospital Ota.
The suspected cause of the crash was mechanical deficiency due to brake failure

The third crash occurred at about 0807hrs
along the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway around Mallo Petrol Station, Sagamu
A total of 09 persons were involved which comprised 07 Male Adults and 02 Female Adults, who all sustained various degrees of injuries.
No death was recorded from the crash.
Vehicle involved was 01 with registration number
AAA676XY, a white coloured
TOYOTA BUS
The Injured victims were rescued to IDERA HOSPITAL, Sagamu and VICTORY HOSPITAL, Ogere
The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed

The fourth crash occurred at about 1115hrs along the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway around PUNCH Newspaper
16 persons were involved which comprised 10 Male Adults and 06 Female Adults.
02 persons sustained injuries , 01 Male Adult and 01 Female Adult.
No death was recorded from the crash.
The lone crash involved a white coloured MAZDA BUS
with registration number
FST 335 XA
The crash was suspected to have been caused by machanical deficiency
The injured victims were rescued to FAMOBIS HOSPITAL for medical attention.

The fifth crash occurred at about 1655hrs along the Ota – Idiroko International Corridor around Ilo-Awela
A total of 14 persons were involved which comprised of 08 Male Adults and 06 Female Adults .
02 vehicles were involved (a) Blue coloured Bullion Van with no registration number which collided with a yellow coloured BUS with registration number LSD621XQ.
03 persons sustained injuries, 02 Male Adults and 01 Female Adult .
The injured victims were rescued to Leadway Hospital for medical attention .
The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Motorists , especially those working within the border communities with Lagos around Arepo, Warewa, Magboro , Ibafo ,Mowe and even Sagamu,daily commuting to Lagos are enjoined to drive cautiously, especially around the construction areas and should resist the temptation of driving against traffic for whatever reason, as the consequences could be grevious not only to the traffic violators but to even some law abiding road users.

Such commutters should also plan their journies to accommodate additional travel time required to navigate around areas where lanes have narrowed due to the construction activities of the construction companies.

The FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander, Clement Oladele
has accordingly admonished motorists to drive with utmost caution especially around construction zones.

The Sector Commander, enjoined Motorists to note that the areas where diversions were removed on the Lagos – Ibadan and the Sagamu- Ijebu Ode – Ore – Benin Expressways are still construction zones and they should therefore maintain the stipulated 50 km per hour maximum speed limit as well as refrain from overtaking till they are clearly out of construction zone, as violators are liable to prosecution.

Motorists are to note too the need to drive cautiously as repair works are still ongoing by RCC on the Sagamu Interchange Bridge, partly burnt by the 25 December 2019 twin – tankers crash. Motorists should obey the FRSC Marshals controlling the flow of traffic in addition to the road signs erected to guide motorisation.
