The details of the 2017 COSON Week, the Nigerian music industry’s biggest event which has been advertised for several months has finally been released. The dates, specific events and the venues hosting the big events were made public on September 26 by the Chairman, Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), Chief Tony Okoroji, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State where a COSON Stakeholders Forum took place.
The COSON Week begins on Sunday, October 29 with ‘COSON in the Church’, the red carpet national day of songs and prayer as the nation’s top nightingales and key ministers of the gospel come together to sing and pray for the Nigerian nation. COSON in the Church, to be broadcast live across the world, will take place at Trinity House in Victoria Island, the mega church pastored by the seasoned accountant and Man of God, Ituah Ighodalo. Red Carpet and cocktail at COSON in the Church which is strictly by invitation, begin at 4.00 pm.
Next day, Monday, October 30, attention will shift to Four Points by Sheraton also in Victoria Island, where the ‘COSON Lecture’ will take place with Nigeria’s best brains gathered for an Intellectual Property feast. The COSON Lecture which is also by invitation, begins at 11.00 am.
On Tuesday, October 31, the major streets in the Mainland of Lagos will witness an unforgettable spectacle as a rainbow of Nigeria’s best-known music stars sweep the streets of the city, clean drainages, drive garbage trucks, control traffic and do various other under esteemed work as they give meaning to the dignity of labour. The ‘COSON in the Streets’ train will move at 11.00 am with lots of music from the National Theatre, Iganmu through Surulere, Yaba into Ikeja where there will be a major music throw-down at the Ndubuisi Kanu Park, Alausa, opposite the Lagos State House of Assembly. The throw-down begins at 4.00 pm and is open to the general public for free.
On Wednesday, November 1, the nation’s crème de la crème, dressed to kill with a touch of green, walk the green carpet and enjoy the finest entertainment and the choicest cuisine money can buy at the ‘COSON Green Ball’ which begins at MUSON Centre, Lagos at 6.30 pm. At the COSON Green Ball which is strictly by invitation, the special guests will seek to deliver support to the COSON Music Foundation set up to provide succour to old or indigent musicians and musicians in distress.
The ‘COSON All Stars Table Tennis Blow Out’ takes centre stage at the Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba on Thursday, November 2 as the stars do battle on the table to dethrone star singer, Timi Dakolo, the reigning champion of the COSON All Stars Table Tennis Blow-Out. The big battle begins at 11.00 am and is open, free of charge, to the general public.
The Surulere Central Mosque in Shitta will on Friday, November 3, host Nigeria’s stars of music at ‘COSON at the Mosque’, a day of supplication to the Almighty Allah. COSON at the Mosque is also open to the public.
The bonus event of the 2017 COSON Week, ‘Children’s Day at COSON House’ will take place on Saturday, November 4 as selected Nigerian children between the ages of ten and fifteen visit COSON House in Ikeja and are hosted at the COSON Arena where they will be introduced to the world of intellectual property, meet some ‘A’ list music stars and have a lot of fun. ‘
The COSON Week climaxes with the show of all shows, ‘the COSON Song Awards’ on Sunday, November 5 with the nation’s glitterati and paparazzi on parade at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island. The Awards ‘Red Carpet Fantastico’ begins at 5.00 pm. The COSON Song Awards is strictly, strictly and strictly, by invitation. The only way to describe it is wow!
