Did Prince die from drug overdose?

The shocking death of legendary pop superstar Prince, 57, on Thursday, April 21, 2016 has left the music and fashion world in mourning with tributes flowing relentlessly for the iconic singer.

The artiste (full name Prince Rogers Nelson) had a medical emergency on April 1 that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois after which his people told the media that he was battling the flu. Prince also appeared at a dance concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay.

However, reports have it that Prince was treated for an opiate overdose after he made the emergency landing with doctors administering a ‘save shot’ on him. He also reportedly rejected the doctor’s advice to stay overnight, as he checked out of the hospital three hours after because he couldn’t get a private room.

He died at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota on Thursday after being found unresponsive in an elevator. His cause of death is not confirmed yet.

Prince became an international superstar in 1982 after his breakthrough album “1999.” He went on to release several hits, garnering 7 Grammys in the process. He also performed at the Super Bowl in 2007, which was described as one of the greatest live performances of all time. He again sold more than 100 million records during his career, and won the Academy Awards for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1985.

Prince was married two times, the first time to his backup dancer Mayte Garcia. They split in 2000. He then married Manuela Testolini, but they split in 2006.
