The British nurse who contracted the deadly Ebola virus while working in Sierra Leone last month has made a stunning recovery and he says he is “wonderfully lucky” to be alive.
William Pooley fully recovered just ten days after he was airlifted from Sierra Leone to the Royal Free Hospital for treatment, and as he was discharged today (September 3) he said he was “happy and relieved” to be going home with his family.
He was treated with the experimental drug – ZMapp – by the medical team at the hospital in Hampstead.
