Ebola scare: Lagos LG council manager quarantined at Canada Airport

THE administrative head and council manager of one of the local council administrations in Lagos State was recently quarantined at Toronto, Canada Airport when the airport official discovered malaria drugs in his luggage.
The council manager was one of the over 30 local government chairmen and council managers of Lagos State who left the shores of the country in the early weeks of August 2014, to attend a workshop/seminar on local government administration.
The airport officials suspecting the malaria drugs were being used to suppress symptoms of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) decided to delay the LG council manager at the airport under close watch.
All efforts by some local government chairmen to secure his release proved abortive.
For the seven days his colleagues and the chairmen spent at Faremont Hotel, Toronto, where the workshop/seminar entitled, New Concept in Local Government Administration, took place, the council manager was locked up at the airport.
ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered that even after laboratory tests proved that he did not have Ebola virus but malaria, the council manager was still not allowed to leave the airport.
The council manager, his colleagues and the LG chairmen who attended the seminar have since returned to the country.
Tried as much as we did to get the name of the council manager and the LG/LCDA that he works for, we did not succeed.  Our sources who were also participants in the workshop refused to disclose the name of the council manager.
Hon. Hakeem Bamgbola, the General Secretary of Conference 57 (euphemism for the association of 20 LG chairmen and 37 LCDA chairmen/chairperson) in Lagos State, who was also on the trip wrote this in response to our questionnaire.
“Please, on no account was any council manager quarantined on account of any drug on malaria.  A council manager was delayed on purpose of his visit to Canada and was released later.  Best regards.”
