Ebonyi students hail Glo on Campus Storm initiative

The next generation network, Globacom, has received accolades from the students of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, for bringing its flagship concert show, the Glo Campus Storm, to the university.

The show was held at the Abakaliki campus One of the university on Friday, December 2 and attracted a large crowd of students and other members of the university community, who thronged the Law Faculty auditorium, venue of the show in their hundreds.

At the concert, one of the highly-elated students who could not hide their excitement at the end of the show, Amarachi Mba, a 300 level Food Science and Technology student, praised Globacom for such an initiative. “The Glo Campus Storm is such a great idea. It is only Glo that organizes this kind of concert here in Abakaliki. They really know what we students want”, she enthused.

Benedict Chikaodinaka, a 200 level Geology student who was given an opportunity to showcase his skills as an upcoming artiste at the show, said, “I have never been given an opportunity to perform at any show. I never knew I had such great skills until I was asked to perform at the Glo Campus Storm. Glo has helped me discover myself even more and I appreciate them for this”, he said.

The event was anchored by ace comedian, Bovi, who dished out jokes to spice up the show and the event kicked off with performances by ‘Wannabe’ student artistes, who were given the opportunity to showcase their talents to the admiration of their local fans.

Some of the activities lined up as side attractions to entertain the audience included dancing and singing competitions, comedy, poetry and a beauty pageant in which the audience were allowed to judge the contestants and produce winners by voice vote.

Reekado Banks was the first to perform. He elicited cheers from his teeming fans as he performed his hit tracks including ‘Katapot’,  ‘Oluwani ni’ and ‘Sugar baby’. Next was his Marvin Records label mate, Korede Bello, who appeared on stage in black top and jeans to deliver his popular tunes such as ‘Godwin’ and ‘Mungo Park’. Runtown wrapped up the evening with an exhilarating act, performing vivaciously as he interacted with his fans.

A beauty pageant which was held to determine the best Glo Campus Data Diva and the Glo Campus Data Dude on campus was keenly contested by 15 elegant young ladies and 15 handsome dudes. At the end of the contest, Nkasiobi Muoneke, a 400 level Medicine and Surgery undergraduate, as winner of the coveted “Glo Campus Data Diva” competition and Gabriel Ogbonna Ajah, a 300 level History and International Relations student, as the “Glo Campus Data Dude”. Both winners carted home N100,000 each, while the runners-up in both categories won N50,000 each.
