Ekiti governor, Kayode Fayemi evasive over purchase of N104 million bullet proof Lexus jeeps

ArmoredLexusLX5702Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has remained evasive over the story that he just took delivery of two bullet proof Lexus jeeps ahead of the governorship election in the state in October 2014.

The governor is said to have shipped in the two black 2012 Lexus LX 570 bullet proof jeeps at the cost of N104 million (each N52 million), excluding the cost of shipping and clearing. They were reportedly brought in through the Tin Can, Apapa Port, Lagos, two weeks ago. According to reports, the two jeeps were for the governor and his wife’s use.

But the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, said the governor is not interested in the story. Rather, he is concentrating on making Ekiti a better place as there are no proofs to the claim that he just bought those jeeps. “I am aware of the story, but can you prove your claim as regards the receipt and other documents to back it that the governor bought those cars? You can as well ask your source to give you evidence of the purchase. Until then, I can’t comment, confirm or deny the story.”

His stand notwithstanding, the most talked about issues around the state’s political circuit is the governor’s acquisition of two new bullet proof Lexus jeeps. Pictures of the two vehicles are already circulating on the social media with many people commenting on it.

This type of vehicle seem to be the choice of governors in Nigeria. Only recently, the Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola paraded three newly acquired bullet proof jeeps. One of them is being used by the governor for attending social functions. Apart from the comfort, the automobile is made for any terrain and it also provides security for its occupants.
