Popular music producer and recording artiste, Solomon Oyeniyi, also known as K-Solo, has been in the news recently.
Apart from dropping new singles after a long break, he recently declared to a national newspaper that he would never work again with his protege, Timaya.
People have reacted to the comment, suggesting that K-Solo was still bitter with Timaya for several reasons.
ENCOMIUM Weekly, in this interview with the controversial artiste, asked why he is returning to the music scene, his acrimony with Timaya, plans to remarry and much more.
The word on the street is that K-Solo is back with new songs.
It’s not just the word on the street. I’m back for real and when I’m back, it’s like the proverbial cat entering the house, all the rats and mice must go into hiding. My coming back might be a little slow because when the house has been brought down, bringing it up again takes time but I’m fully back with new sound, new equipment and all.
That means you must have been much busy in the studio?
Very busy. We’ve done so many things already but I don’t want to say we will be releasing songs every week even though we can do that. You saw D’Banj unveil Tonto Dikeh on his label last week, but you don’t know they have been working together in the studio, since last year. So if she starts releasing songs now, some will think she just recorded them. I’ve been working too.

So, an album is in the works?
Yes, it is. It should be ready before the end of the year but I’ll release singles now. I also have two videos I will be shooting back to back so, there will be a lot of materials from me.
People are talking about a recent interview you granted a national paper, they are saying you are still bitter with Timaya after all these years?
I think the point is papers want to sell. The message I was trying to send was actually misinterpreted. That aside, how would you be bitter for an issue that is over five years? I am not bitter, why would I be bitter over Timaya? One thing I’m grateful for is that he is a millionaire and there’s no way the story of his career is going to be written without K-Solo. Another point is that whenever it’s his matter, reporters want to sensationalize it. He has a poor relationship with the press. Some words were misquoted against him. I only said Timaya should stop calling somebody an ingrate when he knows what he has done in the past.
Are you saying Timaya’s like a kettle calling the pot black?
I won’t call him that because we are all black kettles. We’ve all made mistakes. But I think he should mend his bad press so that stories wouldn’t be turned against him. My interview was not even about him, I only mentioned him in passing and they made it look like it was about him.
What about Patoranking?
Patoranking is my son, he remains my son and I’m still waiting for him. The last time we talked was when he was moving from Timaya’s Dem Mama, to Foston Music. I’m happy that he’s doing fine because he’s a boy that I actually had love for from the beginning. I know he is just starting, people have seen just little of him. I can tell more about him. He is one boy that would stay a long time if he is well managed.

But why didn’t you sign him, people say you discovered him?
The truth is that I don’t fool myself. I know what it entails to sign someone. In terms of what you have to do for them, I know I don’t have it. In Nigeria, so many people call themselves record labels and they are unable to take care of the artistes. This ends up in friction between the artiste and the label. My company’s more of a production outfit where I groom artistes and if they are fit for the market, I introduce them and it’s always a 50/50. If you want you renew and we work together again, if not you can move on.
Are you planning to remarry or have you married secretly?
I have not married secretly, but very soon, something is going to be happening. We might not make much noise about it, we don’t have the Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz money to spend but the point is, it is a good thing to have a wife and it’s a good thing to build a family. So soon, by God’s grace, it’s going to be happening.
So, you are confirming that there is somebody you are planning with?
Of course, by God’s grace.
So, has K-Solo matured more now to handle marriage better than the last one?
As a young man, as you grow, some mistakes you made, you know how to correct them and where you need to work on. Overtime, you’ve grown, I have grown and I thank God.
Is there any special reason you have not still seen your son from your earlier marriage?
The truth is that I have experienced a lot from that side so, I have to be careful. When it’s time for that, the right thing would be done. The truth is that for now, I’m not anxious to see him because this is probably the point where the child needs the mother more than the father. I’m not anxious to see him at all, it’s just that people keep asking me about him and I don’t want to sound like I don’t want to talk about it.
I might even walk up to the place and say please o, I just want to see the child and they would say you came to do another thing. And you know Nigerians, they would only listen to one side of the story. The right thing will happen at the right time, I’m sure of that.
