When President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn-in on Friday, May 29, 2015, many Nigerians who saw him as a magician expected him to hit the ground running. But to their dismay, he is even yet to appoint his ministers.
To some entrepreneurs ENCOMIUM Weekly sought their views on this, Buhari’s slowness in this aspect has been taking a toll on their various businesses. So, they advised he should step up the game.
BANKE ADEWUNMI
It’s true that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is handling issues of governance in core areas that will affect the generality of Nigerians slowly. Nigerians can’t be that patient waiting for him taking too much time to constitute his cabinet.
We are tired, especially those of us business men and women because without constituting the cabinet, all the ministries and government parastatals can’t function effectively. And when that’s not guaranteed, there can’t be money in circulation which will definitely affect flow of business. I think Buhari should take a decision now on that, we all need a direction. For instance, my business has been at a standstill all this while.

Yes, we can’t rule out the fact that things are slow economically but I can’t subscribe to what some Nigerians are saying concerning that. President Buhari should not be expected to hit the ground running, he needs to take some necessary steps, which is part of what he is doing at the moment, before things can work out to the benefit of all and sundry. I think he should be encouraged, not persecuted because, left to me, his anti-corruption crusade will in turn move the nation forward not only politically but economically. We entrepreneurs will at the end of it all be the largest beneficiaries of his policies. We all just have to exercise patience.

Yes, it affects business. And that’s because one is not sure of the direction of the economic policies of the country, and thus cannot make some decisions as it affects business.
Quite a number of things are on hold due to that. Also, investors are apprehensive. You know, you can’t invest money without the assurance of returns of. So yes, it affects business.
What I think should be done is for the government to assure investors and business people favourable economic policies that would, to a great extent, assure returns on investment.

Nigerians are generally impatient. I believe that Mr. President is taking his time to form a formidable team that will give him the desired result. We all know the level of decay, mismanagement and corruption this country has gone through for many decades, so I believe we all have to be patient with our president. So we can all enjoy the desired result.
I will just advice Mr. President to take his time because all the noise about him being Baba go-slow is coming from the opposition that does not want him to succeed.

It’s been affecting me positively. In fact, I’ve seen good changes since he came on board. He should follow his mind. Not allow anyone to bamboozle him to do things in a hurry because he’s the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He should just take a step at a time.
