Euro 2016 : How France crushed world champion to reach finals

It was 90 minutes of total football action as France crushed Germany 2-0 in front of their home crowd in the Stade Vélodrome, Marseille in the second semi-final game of the ongoing Euro 2016 tournament to book a spot in the final against Portugal in the Stade de France, Paris.
After dominating the game in the first few minutes, they were totally outplayed by Germany, with Germany missing several goal opportunities. France got the first goal after Antoine Griezmann converted a spot kick to give France the lead in the 45 minutes

They were awarded the penalty after Germany’s captain Bastian Schweinsteiger handled the ball with his hand in the penalty area while challenging Patrice Evra for a Griezmann corner.

Griezmann scored the second in the 72 minute when he shot a loose ball into the back of the net after Paul Pogba’s cross was not properly cleared by the German goal keeper, Neuer.

Griezmann is the highest goal scorer in the tournament with 6 goals to his name and the second player ever to score more than five goals in a Euro competition (only Mitchel Platini has more goals than Griezmann in a single Euro after scoring 9 goals in the 1984 edition).

Germany who were without Mats Hummels (suspended), Mario Gomez( hamstring injury) and Sami Khedira (adductor muscle injury) dominated the game with a 65% to 35% possession but failed to convert most of their chances, with French goal keeper Hugo Lloris making lots of breath taking saves.

France committed 12 fouls out of which they got 2 yellow cards. The Germans, on the other hand, committed 8 fouls with 4 yellow cards.

Germany have now lost four of their last six semi-finals at a major tournament (2006, 2010, 2012, 2016).

Despite their spectacular type of football at the competition, it’s bye bye Germany, as France will be facing Ronaldo of Portugal in the Stade de France on Sunday July 10, 18 years after facing Ronaldo of Brazil at the France 98 world cup final in the same venue.
