Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s interview yesterday (Friday, July 1) on TVC’s Your View where he reiterated that street trading law will come into full force in Lagos with both buyers and hawkers liable to spend 6 months in jail or pay N90,000 fine has been receiving torrents of attention.
(1) Banning of street trading by LAGOS state Gov. Is a really right decision in a terribly wrong time,

Until we solve the problem of traffic in Lagos, banning street trading will not make sense to me.

Street trading and highway Hawkings are illegal in Lagos state. If we don’t like it, HOAS is the place to go. https://t.co/V0r5Z7gc8a

The Governor says he does not want street trading in Lagos…if you don’t like it, Ogun State is not far ????

I don’t think @akinwunmiambode can wake up one morning and saying “hawking/street trading is now illegal in Lagos”. There has to be a bill

So this new law criminalizing street trading in Lagos, anyone seen the document from LSHOA? Or Ambo just woke up angry and made a law?
— Tunde Leye (@tundeleye) July 2, 2016
So I heard lagos state government banned street hawking; it would be difficult to put a stop to street trading in Lagos…..too difficult!

I need to ask a question please. Who on earth advised the Lagos State Governor on this banning of street trading? There is poverty in d land
— OnyeNdiolumbe (@CalvinEmeka) July 1, 2016
I hope security issues will not escalate? Street trading can be curbed . I am afraid robbery may be on the increase soon in Lagos

1. Street trading is illegal. However, it had been allowed to thrive for too long in lagos. More than 500,000 youths https://t.co/LKFXLHhvuC
— akinyele aje (@kronikls) July 2, 2016
2. Over 500,000 youths are actively doing street trading in lagos metropolis. What are the plans of the govt… https://t.co/LKFXLHhvuC

So the govt. barns street trading with no alternatives and an ineffective police force??? Watch what happens to the spate of crime in Lagos.
— Tomide (@TomideM) July 2, 2016
Traffic trading is only a version of street trading. Street trading as a whole has been illegal in Lagos for some time. Why scream foul now?
— Stephen Legal (@oluwasteviebaba) July 2, 2016
I thought you said only ‘highway trading’ is banned? If street trading is not banned in developed cities, why Lagos? https://t.co/XoOm9zTjdx
