Fake Okotie demands N100,000 from Facebook friends

A fraudulent ‘pastor’ parading himself as Household of God’s Rev. Chris Okotie is soliciting for donations “to save the life of a baby born with a tumour on her face and head.”  But Rev. Okotie has disowned the Facebook account (Chris Okotie) through which the scammer deceives the general public.

In a phone chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Saturday, February 22, 2014, Okotie, who spoke through his publicist, Ladi Ayodeji, advised the public as well as his associates and congregation not to deal with the fake Okotie.

“The account is fake.  You know how they operate.  Rev. Chris Okotie cannot ask for N100,000 donations for anybody.  We don’t do things like that through the public.  We know how we do our charity work.”

Immediately our reporter sent a friend’s request to the fake Okotie’s Facebook account on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at about 3.31 am, his first message was to ask for N50,000 in donation to a baby with a tumour.

“The Lord ministered to me about you.  He said you have a great destiny even more than you think.  He said you should sow just N50,000 into the life of one baby born with tumour on her face and head.  If this is done as soon as possible, your blessings will overfill the earth.”

Around 6.40 am, the ‘pastor’ raised the sum of N100,000 in the same above words.  He also urged us to “obey by sowing the seed today into the baby’s mother account to attract God’s blessings instantly.”

The ‘man of God’ sent the account details upon our request as follows:

Account Number – 0136454442

Bank Name – GTBank

Account Name – Iyare Osagie

“After sowing, write me back. I have a word for you.  Do this today,” he finally directed.

On Saturday, Febraury 22, 2014, the fake Rev. Okotie sent more messages urging us to please “sow the seed” in the interest of the ailing baby.

Interestingly, the fake Rev. Okotie’s Facebook account has over 500 followers and friends, who don’t even know it is not real.

The social media has since been invaded by scammers who defraud unsuspecting people of their hard earned money and sometimes possessions.  Apart from hacking through a victim’s account, the smart guys deploy several tricks to make money from their victims.

Rev. Chris Okotie, who is also a presidential aspirant on the platform of Fresh Democratic Party, is not the only minister of the gospel whose identity has been compromised to scam folks.

Redeemed’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Bishops David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church (Winners), Sam Amaga and host of other prominent pastors have also fallen victims of internet fraudsters.

At the time of filing this report, the fake Okotie’s Facebook account has not been removed by the former wonder boy of pop and founder of Household of God’s Church.  In the Facebook account, Rev. Okotie is said to be married, lives in Lagos and has been pasturing the church since February 11, 1987.
