Fallout of Otunba Debasco’s crashed marriage,  Ijebu-Ode Club  suspends estrange wife’s accomplice in  threat to life allegation

‘I want the case charged to court’ -Debasco

‘We’re still investigating the matter’ – -Police

The crisis that engulfed the home of popular businessman cum politician, Otunba Babatunde Onakoya, better addressed as Tunde Debasco, has gone deeper to consume Otunba Afolabi Oduwole, a member of Ijebu-Ode Club and one of the alleged accomplices of his estranged wife, Olayinka Onakoya in the threat to life petition the politician wrote to Ogun State Police Command recently.

ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered from an impeachable source that Oduwole, a prominent member of the prestigious Ijebu-Ode Club and Sales Manager of 33 Lager Beer, Port Harcourt branch office, has been officially suspended by the club on account of his alleged role in the ongoing imbroglio.

The executive of the club, we were told, rose from two meetings summoned to deal with the issue. And after investigations, they found Oduwole to be engaging in an act that contravened the constitution of the club by illegally associating with the estranged wife of Otunba Onakoya.

Meanwhile, Otunba Oduwole, ENCOMIUM Weekly learnt, had denied knowing Mrs. Yinka Onakoya, in a letter his lawyer, Barrister M. M. Mustapha of Mustapha and Co, Agent Chambers and Legal Practitioners wrote to the club but later accepted Mrs. Onakoya as his friend as well as disassociating himself from the letter submitted to the club by his representatives.

The club management, we learnt, in a letter of suspension handed over to Oduwole, frowned at Oduwole’s alleged involvement in the scenario that transformed into the crisis that crashed the union of Debasco to his estranged wife, Yinka; hence the decision to suspend Oduwole from the club.

The club, however, stressed that it’s ungentlemanly for any member of the club to be associated with a fellow club member’s wife whether estranged or not.

The club, we learnt, decided to suspend Oduwole after all its efforts to resolve the matter amicably were allegedly thwarted by Oduwole.

“The allegation of threat to life leveled by Otunba Tunde Debasco against his estranged wife, Yinka and two others – Afolabi Oduowle and Bisi Lawal is yet to be resolved. I leant the situation has degenerated into the suspension of Otunba Oduwole from the club.

“I also learnt the executive of the club, led by Tunde Ashiru appeared before Ogun State Police Command a couple of days back on the issue and they all made one statement of the other at the state Criminal Investigation of Intelligent Department (CIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun State. But I don’t think the police have concluded their investigations on the matter. I learnt they have sent a team of policemen to investigate the alleged threat to life of Debasco at Ijebu-Ode round about sometimes late 2015, as contained in the petition letter.

Now, Otunba Debasco is still insisting his estranged wife and others accused in the letter be charged to court. So, that’s where the complication is now but the club is trying to ensure that the whole issue is resolved amicably.

Speaking with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Friday, January 29, 2016, Otunba Debasco said, “Yes, everybody involved has been summoned by the police at CIID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, and the police are already carrying our their investigations concerning threat to my life at Ijebu-Ode round about. So, I am awaiting the outcome of their investigations. But whatever the outcome, I am sure they will be charged to court. I want the case charged to court”.

ENCOMIUM Weekly also contacted the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Muyiwa Adejobi on the case. He said the command is yet to establish anything concerning the allegations. He, however, promised to keep us posted as soon as the police conclude their investigation.

“Let me say here that the police have not established anything yet. You’re to be patient to allow me have the report of the case from CIID before further publication. I won’t speak on my own or for myself but for the command. And I can only speak on what I have from CIID”.

ENCOMIUM Weekly’s efforts to get Otunba Oduwole’s reaction proved abortive, but we later reached out to the President of Ijebu-Ode Club, Tunde Ashiru, who declined comment, insisting it’s an internal issue.

“As far as I am concerned, it’s an internal issue. I don’t have any comment on anything like that now”.
