Family of man shot in Charleston gets $6.5 million settlement

The family of Walter Scott, 50, the unarmed black man who was shot dead in April, 2015 by a North Charleston officer, Michael Slager has been settled  with $6.5 million.

Scott was killed while trying to escape arrest at a traffic stop.  Slager opened fire and shot him eight times as he ran for dear life.

The settlement was approved and announced by the North Charleston City Council ( North Carolina, United States of America) in the presence of the family on Thursday, October 8, 2015.

The video of the incident was recorded by a passerby.

33 year-old Slager was sacked after he was arrested and detained in solitary confinement.  Now, he faces 30 years in prison without parole if he is convicted of murder.
