Fayose, Omisore mum on Obanikoro’s confession over $2.1 billion arms scandal

Ekiti governor, Ayodele Fayose and his friend, Senator Iyiola Omisore (both of Peoples Democratic Party), have maintained sealed lips on the shocking confession of former minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro at the Economic and Financial Crimes  Commission (EFCC) office, claiming he gave the two party top shots whooping N3.8 billion on the instruction of the embattled National Security Adviser (NSA) to former president Jonathan, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

The confession came after several denials of involvement by Obanikoro in the  sharing of the $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of arms to fight the dreaded Boko Haram and this has been generating heated debate within and outside the political class in the country.

The statement made by the former minister who returned to Nigeria from United States of America a couple of days back, Encomium Weekly leant, has unsettled Fayose and Omisore who had earlier denied getting any share of the loot from the Lagos based PDP big wig.

Meanwhile, Fayose had earlier been indicted by a military panel, which alleged that he was among those given the money released by Dasuki, in the build up to the 2015 general elections, while Omisore was also separately indicted on the alleged loot.
However, Encomium Weekly in its bid to seek the reaction of the two controversial politicians on the allegation, contacted Omisore via his spokesman, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, on Thursday, October  20, 2016 but he declined comment.
“Please, we don’t want to talk on anything like that now.”

Also,we made frantic efforts to get Fayose’s response, via his spokesperson, Mr. Lere Olayinka, to no avail as all the calls placed through to his mobile line were ignored. We also sent him a text which was left unreplied till we went to press.

Meanwhile, from all indications, the Federal Government may have perfected plans to use senator Obanikoro as prosecution witness against Governor Fayose and Osun former deputy governor, Senator Omisore in the ongoing arms deal probe.
