Fear heightens as kidnappers yet to release Akungba Akoko’s regent

The Akungba Akoko community in Ondo state is still in palpable fear and tension as the whereabouts of its regent, Princess Mojisola Omosowon, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen, on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, is yet to be known.

A reliable source told ENCOMIUM Weekly that contrary to the reports in some dailies, the abductors of the traditional ruler are yet to contact her family or the palace  to demand any ransom for her release.

According to the source, panic has also gripped the family of the princess and the entire natives; hence the need to resort to divine intervention for the safety of the regent who has been in the custody of her abductors since Tuesday, June 2, 2015.

“The fear is high now in Akungba Akoko over the abduction of the regent. Up till now, no one knows anything about her whereabouts. Everybody is worried. I don’t think her abductors had called anybody as being bandied. That even made the situation worse.

“I learnt some people are speculating that the kidnappers had called and demanded N20 million. That’s not true. If that had happened, I believe people might have raised the money just to ensure the woman is set free.”

“But I learnt men of Anti-Robbery Squad had taken charge of the case. And very soon, the kidnappers will be apprehended and the regent released as well.”

Meanwhile, the State Police Command’s spokesman, Mr. Wole Ogodo, who was reportedly contacted didn’t confirm the tale that the abductors had called the family and demanded N20 million.

However, ENCOMIUM Weekly’s efforts to seek the reaction of the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinwande on the issue proved abortive and all the calls put through his mobile line were declined. We also sent him a text which wasn’t replied till we went to press.

On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, unidentified gunmen abducted Princess Mojisola Omosowon, the regent of Akungba Akoko on her way to Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo state where she was to attend the inaugural lecture of the university. Since her abductors are yet to let her off the hook which has been giving the whole community sleepless nights.
