THE REAL REASON JONATHAN FIRED SPORTS MINISTER, BOLAJI ABDULLAHI

On Wednesday, March 5, 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan swore in 11 new ministers, but that was not the news of the day.

What shocked many was the sack of the Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi. Though Jonathan was silent on the reasons for the minister’s sack, insiders said he lost his job as a result of alleged breach of trust. Abdullahi was said to have allegedly remarked in a bus conveying dignitaries to the venue of a PDP rally in Kwara State on Monday, March 3, 2014, that “He has no business to be here if not because I am from this state and by reason of my position.”

His comment was said to have angered PDP stalwarts in the bus, who eventually leaked it to Jonathan. President Jonathan was on a one-day visit to Kwara State where he received former members of PDP including Senator Gbemisola Saraki, who returned to the ruling party.

Abdullahi, a minister since 2011, is believed to be Senator Bukola Saraki’s political godson. Saraki, former Kwara State governor and leader of the Saraki political family, is the arrow head of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
