Five years after the death of Mrs. Alaere Augustina Alaibe, wife of Mr. Timi Alaibe, former managing director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) her business place, Pretty Woman has been closed.

The business concern inside a magnificent building on Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos, has been taken over by a hospitality business, Lagos Travel Inn Limited.

The 10 storey venture is yet to start operations as renovation is still going on there. The new Lagos Travel Inn Limited is an extension of the one near Water Parks also on Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos.

Pretty Woman was opened in 2005 and after the death of its owner, Alaere Alaibe in January 31, 2009, the family decided to close down on the basis that the place was not properly managed and had witnessed poor sales. We learnt a closing down sales was done in May 2013 and the final closing down was in June 2013.

While Mrs. Alaibe was alive Pretty Woman was a beehive of activities and the centre of attraction for fashion forward women. The one time number one women’s store traded in hair and skin products, perfumes, weave-ons, wigs, cosmetics and other beauty enhancing products. ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke to Mr. Dauda, one of the personal assistants to Mr. Timi Alaibe, husband of the late Alaere Alaibe on Saturday, February 8, 2014, over the development. He told us there is no big deal in closing down the business. After all, it is a family decision. “I am sure there is no big deal about that. However, let me speak to my boss, I will get back to you.” And till we went to press he never did.

Mrs. Alaere Alaibe died in a London hospital on Saturday, January 31, 2009, after she lost the battle to cancer related ailment. She was in her 40’s when she passed on and survived by her husband and five children. However, five years after her legacy still lives on. The epitome of beauty was a philanthropist and those who enjoyed her warmth and kindness still relish the brief moment she impacted in their lives. Mrs. Alaibe was a friend of farmers in her home state, Bayelsa. She spent heavily on adult education and built a hospital where many of her kinsmen received free medical attention. She was from Sagbama local government of Bayelsa state.
