Food to eat and avoid to lower your blood pressure

High blood pressure makes you vulnerable to heart disease, stroke, heart failure and kidney disease. Experts explain that it can be prevented by simple dietary changes. It doesn’t have to necessary take over your life.

High blood pressure is a silent killer. Nutritionists from the University of Newcastle and Australia reveal foods you should eat and ones you should avoid.
Research show the impact of oats on blood pressure in about 400 healthy adults. It was found that those who ate oats bran had 1.5mmHg lower blood pressure. Eat more of oats for breakfast.
Beetroot also reduces blood pressure. Beetroot juice is extremely rich in a compound called inorganic nitrate. During digestion, the nitrate gets converted into nitric oxide, which causes arteries to dilate. This lowers the pressure in them.
Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is very good when it comes to lowering blood pressure. It is found in fresh vegetables and fruit.
High salt intakes are related with high blood pressure. Research show that an adult needs between 1.2 to 2.4g of salt each day. When salt is added to food, it pushes sodium in-take even higher. Food high with sodium should be avoided.
Consumption of alcohol also increase blood pressure. Surprisingly, when you drink alcohol at first, blood pressure goes down – only to rise later. The larger the amount of alcohol in-take, the higher the risk of high blood pressure.
Caffeine consumed in coffee, tea, cola and energy drinks increases blood pressure. According to experts, high in-takes of caffeine from coffee increases blood pressure in the short term.
It’s best you monitor your individual response to caffeine.
