Foreigners squatting in London arrested

Squatting in a residential building is illegal in London. The law came into effect in September 2012.

The law was brought in by Ministers when homeowners complain that these squatters damage their properties.

Metropolitan police say 210 people (mostly foreigners) have been charged to court. The largest contingent being detained was from eastern Europe (with 60 percent), while others are from Romania, Poland and Lithuania.

Squatters in London are prosecuted and taken to court.
