Former BBA winner, Karen Igho describes her ideal man

-You don’t need to be rich to rule my world, she says

BBA Amplified winner, Karen Igho is multi talented without a doubt. She is an actress, presenter and now a singer. She recently completed an acting course in the UK in preparation to take Nollywood by storm. She also just made her first attempt at singing with her just released single with her brother, Kiddo, entitled, Jump and Pass.

Following her recent revelation on Twitter that she hasn’t had sex for over two years, ENCOMIUM Weekly interviewed her on her sex life, her foray into music and sundry issues.

What informed your decision to venture into music?

It was unplanned.  My younger brother just said, “Karen, you can do it, just try”, and I tried it and I was amazed at the outcome of what was meant to be a joke.

When did you realise that you have a passion or talent for singing?

A month ago, I went to visit my kid brother, Jason, whose stage name is Kiddo, at the MMM Studio and I was cooking for them. I heard a beat that sounded good and I came out of the kitchen. I was encouraged to get on it by Kiddo, I did and the talent was born.

For your first musical outing why do a collabo with an upcoming act when you could always do with a star?

Like I said, it was totally unplanned and I’m glad it happened with my blood brother, who by God’s grace is a star in the making. Who knows, my next collabo might be with a superstar.

You seem to have your hands full in entertainment with acting, singing and presenting. Should we expect other things aside entertainment from your stable?

I’m one of the faces of Exquisite Magazine Against Cancer (EMAC) walk which happens yearly and it’s a cause that creates awareness about breast, cervical and prostate cancers and helps get 500 people screened for free. Also, I have some motherless babies homes and orphanages I assist so I’m not only about entertainment.

You featured in Tinsel, what was the experience?

Oh God, it was wonderful and overwhelming.  I met a lot of nice people from the cast and crew, they were really amazing. I was so motivated and encouraged after the experience; I had to go back to acting school in the UK to brush myself up. Now, I’m back with a bang.

Will you be taking roles in Nollywood soon?

Oh, of course. I just got back from acting school in the U.K and I intend to make very good use of the knowledge I gained. Scripts have started rolling in and shoots will commence soon. Everyone should watch out for Karen Igho.

Acting in soaps and in movies, which do you prefer?

Movies are one-offs in that you’re done almost immediately. Series take longer time and are more challenging and help you connect and understand a character more, it also helps an artiste grow. So I’ll say soaps.

We saw your tweets about not having sex for long some weeks back, why did you decide to tweet about it?

Body no be wood na, so staying off sex for so long is a thing of pride for me hence the tweet. It goes to show that once you have your mind to do or not do something, all it takes is determination, will power and the grace of God.

How have you been coping (sex wise) without a man?

Life’s not all about sex, so asking how I cope without a man might give people the wrong impression. I’m still in my 20’s.  I get asked out every day by fine, independent and loaded young men but right now, I’m focusing on my career and that’s the only relationship I’m allowing for now. I intend to go from good to better to best. I’m a DSTV ambassador, an actress, a presenter and most recently, a musician. I intend to build myself up now and establish my career. Juggling so much work with a relationship might be extremely chaotic. It’s really not all about man.

When exactly was the last time you had sex?

It’s been a long time o. Over two years.

Is it correct to say finding Mr. Right has been difficult?

I won’t say it’s difficult. I strongly believe God’s time is the best and as I said I’m just not ready to be in a relationship. When the time is right, I believe everything will fall into place.

Describe your ideal man?

You want to embarrass me, abi? Maybe he dey read, so I go answer. I just want a basic man, I no fit shout. My ideal man should be God fearing, loving and kind. Truth is you don’t have to be cool to be my man; you don’t have to be rich to rule my world, so all I need is your love and time.

What else is happening to Karen Igho?

Watch out for my feature on Kido’s single entitled Jump and Pass. Also, you can join me in the 10km walk against cancer on September 7, 2013, from Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos to Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan, Lagos. My show on NaijaFM, Wetin dey has moved to GraGra Express featuring  Osam and OTD from 4pm to 7pm on Thursdays, so make una tune in make e for no lost.
