Four dead, seven injured in Saudi Arabia terror attacks

As Muslims across the world prepare to end their fast in the holy month of Ramadan, three cities in Saudi Arabia have been scared to the bones as attacks rocked Qatif, Jeddah and Medina, leaving four dead and seven injured.

At Medina, the bomber after being  stopped outside the Prophet’s Mosque detonated his explosives, killing four security officers and injuring five others near a mosque which is the burial place of the Prophet Muhammad and Medina the holiest city in Islam after Mecca.

An eye witness giving an account of the mishap said the bomber had targeted the security officers by pretending he wanted to break his Ramadan fast with them. Others thought the sound accompanying the detonation was the sound of the cannon fire that marks the breaking of fast until smoke where seen rising behind the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

Two other Saudi cities also, Qatif and Jeddah, aslo recorded suicide blasts on the same day, Monday, June 7, and there are predictions that it was carried out by the Islamic State (IS).

An explosion targeting a Shia mosque had earlier rocked Qatif, an eastern city which is home to many minority Shia Muslims, leaving only the attacker dead with a similar incident  near the US consulate in the city of Jeddah in the early hours of Monday where a suspected suicide bomber also died after detonating a device with minor injuries on two security officers.

After Mecca, Medina is regarded as Islam’s second holiest city, where millions of pilgrims visit every year.

Presently no one or group has claimed responsibility of the attacks which some speculate to be part of a coordinated campaign as Saudis prepared to break their fast on the penultimate day of the holy month of Ramadan, it is worthy of note that in the last week the terrorist group,ISIS, committed atrocities and mass killings in Turkey, Bangladesh and Iraq.

As the Eid al-Fitr holiday to celebrate the end of the fast, others around the world have shown concern over social media using #PrayForMedina
