… Funeral funds now almost $9,000
31 year old Deborah Osarere Idiagbonya – who died after battling cancer for about five years on Friday, April 1, 2016, at The Howard University Teaching Hospital, Washington DC, USA, where she was receiving treatment for Lung and skull cancer and set to be buried on Friday, April 30, 2016 – will be honored on Friday by friends.
Candle light walk for Debbie in Lagos, on Friday, April 15, 2016, is from 6pm. The walk would kick off at Conoil filling station in Onipanu along Ikorodu Road , Lagos where Debbie used to live all the way to Stadium in Surulere.
The walk is organised so Debbie’s friends can pay their last respect since her body won’t be coming home.
A T-shirt has been made available for the walk, it is being sold for N2000 and the proceeds from the sale will be sent to America to be used for the funeral arrangements.
She was initially supposed to be buried on the 15th and 16th of April 2016, but the burial was postponed due to insufficient funds and appointment as the funeral and cemetery charges cost about $30,000 and they were not able to raise a lot of money.
A gofundme page was created to help raise funds to give Debbie a befitting burial but they were not yet able to raise even half of the needed funds so the burial was postponed till Friday, April 30, 2016 with the hope that they would have been able to raise all of the money by then.
The Viewing of the body will take place at J.B Jenkins Funeral Homes 7474 Landover road, Landover, Maryland, USA. 20785, between 9:30 am and 10.30 am.
The funeral service will commence immediately between 10:30am and 11:30am before her body will be taken to Glenwood Cemetery at 2219 Lincoln Road, North East, Washington DC, USA, 20002, to be buried.
As at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, $8,977 has been raised by 170 people in 9days on the gofund me page.
Debbie is survived by her mother and two older sisters. She is the last of the three children her mother bore. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and was able to travel to America for surgery and treatments for it and she became well, till she was then diagnosed with bone cancer in April 2015 which also received treatment for and survived until she was down with lung and skull cancer again in December 2015 which she was receiving treatment for at the time of her death.
