Despite the order by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) that no filling station should sell fuel above N87 per litre, some are still not compliant as fuel still goes as high as N120 per litre in some filling stations.
Some Nigerians ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke to on the ugly situation called for the arrest and prosecution of the owners of the stations.

As at last week, I had to queue for like 20 minutes before I could buy just 15 litres for my generator. They sold at N87. The good thing is that I don’t need it like before because light is regular now. But it is annoying that in this day and age one still has to queue to buy fuel.
What I find baffling is that there is no real scarcity, yet we keep having long queues every now and then. I think we should have better regulation of filling stations and petrol marketers so they can’t always create this fake scarcity.

I must say that it is such a pitiful situation and shows a total lack of commitment by the regulatory bodies to allow filling stations to just inflate their prices as they wish. Why do we keep going round this same fuel crisis cycle. There should be better regulation so people will not be cheated and exploited at every opportunity.

It’s true some filling stations still sell above the approved price by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) but there is nothing anybody can do about that. The only thing that can save us from buying fuel above the normal price of N87 per litre is for the Federal Government (FG) to set up a Task Force with a view to enforce the approved price on all the filling stations and ensure any erring station is closed and owner of such a station forfeit his or her license.

The N87 approved pump price of petrol is not uniform. Even, as at few days ago, I bought fuel at N100 per litre. The only difference from the previous experience is that there is no more queue or stress. I believe the Federal Government has tried in regulating the price, it’s only that some marketers still claim it costs them a lot of money transporting the fuel from depots to the desired destinations, so, that makes it impossible to sell at the same rate. Unless there is a strong monitoring team in place, it will be very difficult for the FG to achieve the expected total compliance.

I buy at N87, once I get to a filling station and they start calling any amount more than N87, I turn and leave. They should seal the station and punish them accordingly.
