FUNKE AKINDELE, OREKA GODIS OTHERS FOR ‘FOR COLOURED GIRLS’ STAGE PLAY

THE Nigeria adaption of the world acclaimed stage play, For Coloured Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf, will hold on June 15, 2014 at the  Conventional Centre, Eko Hotel & Suite, Victoria Island Lagos. The event is being put together by Nigeria foremost entertainment-solution provider, Flytyme Entertainment and is being directed by award winning playwright/stage director, Wole Oguntokun.    Produced by ‘Keke Hammond, the multi-award winning play written by Ntozake Shange, premiered on the Nigerian stage in December 2011 to critical acclaim, bringing together some of the best actors in the country before a cumulative crowd of more than 4,000 people.
For Coloured Girls, an amazing story of All Women features seven of the country’s most talented actresses. The performance will feature Carol King as the Lady in Red, Funke Akindele as the Lady in Orange, Osas Ighodaro as the Lady in Purple, Matilda Obaseki reprising her previous role as the Lady in Green, Oreka Godis as the Lady in Yellow, Diana Yekinni as the Lady in Blue and Ade Laoye as the Lady in Brown.
Speaking about her involvement in the play, Carol King says being a Coloured Girl goes beyond skin color. For me, it represents the travails every girl-child goes through and the fortitude needed for her individual journey to womanhood”. Osas Ighodaro added that “To be an artistic voice today and directly or indirectly touching base with past and current issues concerning ALL women and the girl-child means the world to me.” Oreka Godis who seems to be in high spirit for the stage play says, “For Coloured Girls…” in Nigeria this year, is amazing timing as being a voice and an inspiration to the girl-child all over the world is so important. For Coloured Girls… is an immeasurable experience; it is a rite of passage to womanhood, to sisterhood, to love.”
For Coloured Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf is back – bigger and better. There will be two shows and tickets for the 3 p.m show are N5,000 (regular), N15,000 (VIP) while tickets for the 7 p.m grand finale are N7,500 and N20,000 (VIP).
