Glo powers 2016 Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols

Like it was last year, Nigeria’s data grand masters, Globacom,  is the exclusive telecoms partner of this year’s edition of the internationally acclaimed Akwa Ibom State Christmas Carol Festival.

The theme of the 2016 Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol Festival, which is the 9th edition in the series, is “Let Our King Be Lifted High” and the second in the life of the current Akwa Ibom State government.

Globacom said in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday, that it was sponsoring the Carol because of the impressive success of the 2015 edition of the event, which brought in award-winning artistes from all over the world including two Grammy award winners.

“We fully identify with the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol festival which has become one of the biggest crowd-pulling events of the Yuletide season. Our desire is to follow the passion of Nigerians and connect them with their passion.” Globacom declared.

Multiple award winning international gospel artiste, Don Moen, the PRM band from the United Kingdom, The Kayamba Africa Choral Ensemble and the Kenya Boys Choir will entertain guests at the  Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival.

Others who will minister at the event include Nigeria’s top gospel acts like Sammie Okposo, Buchi, Steve Crown, Elijah Oyelade, Rev. Fr. Patrick Edet, Esther Edoho, Julius Nglass and Perfecta Ekpo.

The Ibom Orchestra, The Ibom Brass Band and the Akwa Ibom State Government Choir, which performed excellently, last year will also be on hand to raise the mood of the live audience. The star attraction will be the globally acclaimed 10,000-man choir which has a record of rendering Christmas Carols like never heard before.

Already, the Akwa Ibom State Governor and the chief host, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has sent a message of appreciation to Globacom for accepting to be part of this year’s event.

The annual Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival is recognised worldwide and cited in the Guinness Book of Records. In the year 2012 edition, Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol made history by featuring a 9,999-member choir which was reputed to be the largest Christmas carol choir in the world at that time.

The festival, which will hold on Saturday December 17, 2016 at the Uyo Township Stadium will be broadcast live by leading television  stations such as DSTV  (on Africa Magic and dedicated channels), AIT, Channels TV and AKBC.
