The incidence of trial marriages among students in tertiary institutions has received knocks from Professor Johnbull, the popular television sitcomsponsored by telecommunications giant, Globacom.
In the edition which goes on air this week, the TV drama series will be taking a critical look at the morally deficient practice which is prevalent among student-lovers who cohabit without going through any nuptial procedures.
Globacom, in a press release on the episode titled Campus Marriage said, “the issue of ‘trial marriage’ is common among undergraduates, especially those in institutions where there are no established official accommodation or hostel facilities. While in some instances, the campus couples do have the chance of living together as husbands and wives after graduation, the majority have tales of woe as the relationships hit the rocks leading to avoidable heartaches. Campus Marriage, therefore, highlights the dangers of ‘trial marriages’ and the lessons therein are not only for the young ones in schools, but also for parents and guardians”.
The company posited that the episode is “in line with the tradition of Professor Johnbull to highlight moral decadence in the society” and expressed the assurance that “viewers will certainly have value for their time as they watch Campus Marriage”.
The lead character, Kanayo O. Kanayo delivers his usual homily in the drama which also has Bimbo Akintola as Ufoma; Yomi Fash-Lanso, Olaniyi; Imeh Bishop, Etuk; Bidemi Kosoko, Jumoke; Stephen Odimgbe, Fash and Jnr. Pope Odonwodo, Churchill.
The episode answers questions bordering on the appropriateness or otherwise of the culture of ‘trial marriage’ vis-à-vis Jumoke’s moral rectitude or lack of it; who falls victim of campus marriage and whether trial marriage is real or mere fantasy.
The episode comes on air on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes at 8.30p.m. on Tuesday with repeat broadcasts on the same television channels on Friday at 8.30.p.m.
