There seems to be no stopping the laurel collection by the next generation network, Globacom, as it again emerged the biggest winner at the annual Beacon of ICT Awards held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, last weekend.
At the awards, which was the7th edition, Globacom was named “Internet Company of the Year,” “Best GSM Company of the Year” and “Enterprise Solutions Provider of the Year”, winning in three straight categories.
Communications Week Media, organizers of the award and publishers of Communications Week, said Globacom was voted best in the three award categories in an online poll conducted from November last year to March 15, 2016.
According to the organizers, Globacom’s outstanding achievement in the data market in 2015 earned its voters’ nod as Internet Company of the Year. They referred to industry statistics which showed that 53% of new Internet subscribers in the last 12 months opted for Glo as evidence of the company’s emerging status as the leading operator in the data market.
Globacom, they also noted, won the GSM Company of the Year because of its continued pioneering role in Nigeria’s telecom space in terms of innovation and service quality.
On the Business Solutions Provider Award, the organizers said that respondents chose Globacom because it had through its end-to-end backbone infrastructure and customer-centric business solutions endeared itself to several industry verticals.
The ceremony which was chaired by Chairman of Open Media and former Executive Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, also had Zenith Bank, Vodacom, Rack Centre, DHL, GT Bank, Phase 3 Telecoms and Wakanow as winners in different other categories.
The Beacon of ICT Awards was instituted to reward the vision and enterprise of individuals and companies that have contributed to the growth of the ICT industry in a particular year.
The company had won the Best Telecoms Company of the Year, Most Innovative Mobile Player of the Year and Undersea Cable Company of the Year at the 2015 edition of the event.
