Glo’s Prof Johnbull decries wrong character portrayal

Popular TV Drama Series, Professor Johnbull, has decried the widespread  incidence of  hasty character judgement in the society triggered by ethnic bias and perceived sectional character traits.

The executive producer of the sitcom, Globacom, in a press release in Lagos  said  it was unfortunate that people were often judged based on the improper behaviour of a few in the community, adding that  this coloured judgement had led to cases of  disaffection in the society and turned otherwise peaceful communities to ones plagued by “acrimony and mistrust”.

According to the telecommunications giant, the problems character judgement and hasty generalisations have created in a multi-cultural society like Nigeria cannot be downplayed.

“We are hopeful that after this episode, viewers will learn to judge individuals based on their unique character and not on  uninformed sentiments based on  ethnicity, cultural nuances and geographical locations as every society is peopled by the good, the bad and the ugly and no one is bad because he or she comes from a particular place”, the company added.

Viewers will find out why people are often wrongly judged because of their ethnic background, geographical location, place of birth or profession. Is it fair to prejudge people before getting to know them?  What harm is done when  people are  lumped together under a lone, negative stereotype?  Will  Samson wriggle out of the stereotype stamped on him owing to the  perceived notoriety of  people from his Niger Delta origin? These and other questions will receive answers from the TV drama scheduled for NTA Network, NTA International on Channel 251 on DSTV and NTA on StarTimes on Tuesday at 8.30 p.m., with  repeat broadcasts at 8.30 p.m. on Friday on the same channels.

The series stars Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo),  Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), Mai Doya (Funky Mallam), Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko), Ufoma (Bimbo Akintola), Flash (Stephen Odimgbe), Etuk (Imeh Bishop), Samson (Ogus Baba) and Abadnego (Martins Nebo).
