Television sitcom, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by total telecommunications solutions provider, Globacom, will this week examine the age-long tradition of thrift collection which was a veritable means of growing businesses among participants prior to the advent of modern banking.
In the episode entitled Osusu Contribution, almost all the cast of the series including Etuk (Imeh Bishop); Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso); Mai Doya (Funky Mallam); Ufoma (Bimbo Akintola); Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko); Flash (Stephen Odimgbe) Abadnego (Martins Nebo) and Samson(Ogus Baba), fell victim of a fake osusu operator named Mr. Rowland (Mounago Collins Nche), who pretended to be the “coordinator of Corporate Osusu Group”, but ended up swindling them of their hard earned money committed to his care.
It is also a wakeup call to petty traders and others who may desire to join cooperative or thrift societies to observe due diligence before buying into such associations failing which they might become susceptible to the antics of scammers masquerading as thrift collectors.
The episode will further educate viewers on the steps to take before joining thrift societies such as ascertaining the legality of the operations as well as the antecedents of whoever the operators are. They will also find out how Jeroboam (Osita Iheme) escaped being scammed and what the opinion of Professor Johnbull is on the entire practice.
Professor Johnbull shows every Sunday on the DSTV Africa Magic Family and GOTV Channel 2 at 6.00pm. Repeat broadcasts come up on Thursday at 9.30 p.m. on the cable TV channels and on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday, while Anambra Broadcasting Service will air the episode at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday.
