Hakeem Muri-Okunola, Yewande Adesina and Wale Ahmed mum on Lekki land scandal

HAKEEM Muri-Okunola, a.k.a HMO, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Dr. Yewande Adesina, the former Special Adviser on Health to former governor, Fashola and Hon. Wale Ahmed, the former Commissioner for Special Duties, have all decided to keep mum on their alleged involvement in the Lagos State Water Corporation, Lekki land grabbling.

WaleAhmedThe three were mentioned in the 25 plots of land belonging to Lagos State Water Corporation, which was said to have been shared between them and some other people during the last days of Fashola’s administration.

Several phone calls and text messages to their mobile phones since Monday, August 24, 2015, up to Monday, August 31, 2015, were not returned or responded to.

ENCOMIUM Weekly had written in one of our recent editions that Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the erstwhile Permanent Secretary in Land Bureau, was redeployed to Ministry of Youth and Social Development because of his involvement in alleged shady land deals then.  His response to our text message then read: “It is simply what it is, a tour of duty and I count on your support as always to make it work, not negativity.  As always.  HMO.”

But revelations after then proved we were right.

HMO, as he is popularly called, was said to have informed the former governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) that the land was available.  The land was officially parceled into 25 plots and shared by Governor Fashola, who went on to sign the Certificates of Occupancy on May 26, 2015, three days to his exit from office.

yewandeadesinaThe new allottees were issued the old Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) despite the fact that it had been phased out and replaced with electronic certificates by Fashola administration.  Most of the plots were said to have been allocated to the former governor’s relatives, aides and associates.  Among those who benefitted from the land largesse were Dr. Yewande Adesina, the former Special Adviser to Fashola on Health, Hon. Wale Ahmed, the former Commissioner for Special Duties under Fashola, Mr. Adeyemi Isiba, the then General Manager of New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), who got three plots from the shady deal and since been booted out of office because of this.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has since revoked the land deal and restored the ownership to Lagos Water Corporation, the original owner since 1998.
