Hard work and dedication has kept me in business, say KFA Event Place’s Kemi Adeleke

KFA is an event place in Lekki, Lagos. It’s a family owned and operated business. The business started with a household rental company in Apapa, Lagos, by the current Vice Chairman, Bose Ajayi, in 1995. In 2005, another generation took over the affairs of the company, headed by Kemi Adeleke, the Managing Director.

On Sunday, November 29, 2015, KFA celebrated 20th anniversary as the premier party rental specialist. ENCOMIUM Weekly had a chat with the Managing Director, Kemi Adeleke, where she spoke about the challenges of running the business and more.

How did you venture into the business?

I took over the business from my mom nine years ago. My dad made me the Managing Director and ever since, I have been running the business with the support of my parents. My mom is actually like my personal assistant. She gives me advice and helps me with my work.

20 years down the line, what is the secret behind your success?

It’s hard work. A lot of hard work and dedication.

There is an intimidating competition in the business, how have you stayed ahead?

I have stayed ahead by being the best in what we do. We render our customers the best services.

What are the challenges of running the business?

There are a lot of challenges. First, staffing, traffic officials stopping us because of our rental trucks. At times LASTMA officials seize our trucks for days or weeks. This affects our business because we won’t be able to deliver the items in the truck when needed.

How have you been coping with the challenges?

I have been coping by the grace of the Almighty God.

What are the gains of the business?

The satisfaction of the customer is our gain. We are happy when we are able to put a smile on the customer’s’ face. At times when we do jobs, customers send gifts to us to say, thank you. This makes me very happy.

What plans do you have to improve on your business?

I plan to be the best in the business.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

I would be 61 then. I would probably be in my house relaxing and watching my children running the family business.

You just launched some new services, tell us about some of them?

We recently launched the tent washer. It’s the first in Africa. We use it to wash canvasses, canopies that we rent out. We also launched our laundry department. There, we have industrial machines which we use to wash table cloths, chair-covers and sit pads.
