HIV is losing its ability to cause AIDS – study finds

A study, which looked at more than 2,000 women in Africa, has remarkably found that HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is slowly losing its ability to cause AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).

The research, conducted by Prof. Philip Goulder of Oxford University (England) and his team, suggests a less virulent HIV could be one of several factors contributing to turning the deadly pandemic around, eventually leading to the end of AIDS.

According to Prof. Goulder, “Overall, we are bringing down the ability of HIV to cause AIDS so quickly. But it would be overstating it to say HIV has lost its potency — it’s still a virus you wouldn’t want to have”.
