Veteran actor cum film maker, Alhaji Olayinka Abdulganiyu Akanni, simply addressed as Yinka Quadri would have been among those that would remember Saturday, April 11, 2015 governorship and state assembly elections on a bad note if the hoodlums in Ita Maga, Ikorodu, Lagos, had succeeded in burning his multimillion naira edifice in the area on account of his support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Narrating the incident, the successful thespian expressed shock and dissatisfaction about the way the thugs suspected to be Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters in the vicinity attacked his family and other occupants of the building, on Saturday, April 11, 2015, around 5.30pm, just because they got wind PDP was losing the ward.

“My brother, I thank God for securing my family and property for me. If not, it would have been a different story entirely now.

“Some hoodlums who were believed to be supporters of PDP in the area besieged my house in Ikorodu with a plan to set the place ablaze and injure my children and others in the house. They got to know their party had lost when the counting was in progress. They didn’t even wait till the results were announced by the presiding officer before they mobilized themselves to my house in Ita Maga. They attempted burning the house but they were overpowered by the people around.

“I wasn’t at home. I was at our office in Odunfa, Ebute Metta, Lagos, where I voted because that’s where I registered. They only called me on phone to explain how the whole thing happened.

“Everywhere was peaceful in Ebute Metta, except low turnout of voters across the state.

“Over 90 percent of those of us in the Yoruba movie sector campaigned for Ambode and other APC candidates across the country because of the love we have for the party. But I thank God everything  went as expected. Ambode and Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State won.

Gov.-Abdulfatah-Ahmed“To me, the elections were free and fair”, he added.

Expressing his joy over Ambode and Ahmed’s victory, he said, “I am particularly happy Ambode won in Lagos where I live. Fatai Ahmed also won in Kwara, my home state. Both are APC governors now. It’s a good development. I congratulate the two and other APC candidates who won at the just concluded general elections across the country.

“I pledge the movie industry, especially the Yoruba sector, will continue to support their governments at all levels. But they should also remember the entertainment industry in addressing our pressing issues, especially piracy and lack of funds to execute our desired projects.”i
