How Lagos House of Assembly’s clinic matron died …Discovered two days after in her office

MRS. Kikelomo Caroline Oriola, the Chief Matron of Lagos House of Assembly Clinic died on Saturday, August 22, 2015, right inside the clinic but was not discovered until Monday, August 24, 2015 morning.

Her corpse was discovered on Monday morning by Ramota, one of the cleaners in the Assembly.

Ramota, as usual, has gone to the clinic to clean it up but to her chagrin discovered the matron’s dead body lying on the floor behind her table.  She raised an alarm which attracted other civil servants around.

According to the husband of the late matron, Dr. Oriola, a retired medical doctor in the service who was summoned by the management of the Assembly, after the discovery of his wife’s dead body, his wife left home that Saturday, August 22, 2015 morning to purchase drugs for the clinic.  He said when she did not return home that evening, he became apprehensive and called her phone number which was ringing but was not picked.

He said he came to the Assembly complex car park but could not find her car there.  Not knowing that she parked where honourable members usually parked.

He was said to have reported a case of missing person at the police station.  Mrs. Oriola was last seen by many staff of the Assembly on Friday, August 21, 2015, resplendent in white attire which attracted complementary comments from everybody she came across that day.

Nothing in her mien that day showed someone with a serious health challenge.  As a matter of fact, the previous day, Thursday, August 20, 2015, she was said to have gone to lay the foundation of her house at the Cooperative land scheme of the Assembly members at Mowe, Ogun State.

She was said to have given a young lady, an intern, in the Assembly complex, whose mother is caterer a sum of N50,000 as an advance payment for food to be prepared for her 55th birthday that will come up in October, 2015.  She was said to have told the young lady that she may not have enough money to pay her mother the full amount for the catering service in October when her birthday comes up.

Mrs. Oriola was a mother of four children. One of her children is said to be based in Canada.  One has just started working in one of the first generation banks and the third is said to be in school, with the last child, a girl, in Queens College, Yaba, Lagos.

She became the matron of the Lagos House of Assembly Clinic in early 2014.
