Just three days after a bilateral Ovarian Mass Carcinoma patient Mayowa Ahmed Shukurat took to the internet to ask for a donation of $100, 000 for her surgery at Emory International Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia (United States of America), 3,401 people have raised a total of $100,852 (approximately N32 million), joyfully surpassing the mark.
The video of Mayowa Ahmed, a Graduate of the University of Lagos pleading for financial assistance for her failing health arising from the cancerous ailment went viral on gofundme.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms, on Sunday night (July 24, 2016) using the hashtag #SaveMayowa.
Mayowa, a HBSS patient sick since 2015, wrote : “My name is Mayowa Ahmed, Nigerian, a graduate of University of Lagos and an HB SS patient incidentally diagnosed with bilateral Ovarian Mass Carcinoma. I need assistance to raise 100,000 USDollars for treatment at Emory International Hospital, Atlanta, USA. Kindly help me live again. I don’t want to die #SaveMe please.”
The efforts made by Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu, is highly praised as she made her way to the skeletal Mayowa’s bedside at Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Idi-Araba, Lagos, shared her time with her and helped to spread the plea which went viral as other notable entertainment and social media figures joined in the #SaveMayowa trend.
Toyin Aimakhu on her instagram page said: “This is Mayowa. I don’t know her. I have never met her. The only thing I know about her is that she is my fan. I am an actress and I believe this is the time to use my voice. We need your help.”
Some of the other figures who made this possible through their social media platforms include Omojuwa, Joe Odumakin, Rugged Man, Seyi Shay, Skales, YQ, among others.

The bilateral Ovarian Mass Carcinoma is a very serious one which results in abnormal cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body, and 28-year-old Mayowa Shukurat Ahmed’s ovarian cancer had gotten to Stage IV before she was diagnosed rightly by Reddington Hospital, Lagos. She will soon be flown to Emory International Hospital where she will undergo the surgery.
