How Seun Egbeegbe Spent 3 Weeks In  Ikoyi Prisons

– lived large,  received throng of visitors,  ate homemade meals

Music and movie promoter, Seun Egbeegbe has spent his third weekend behind the high walls of Ikoyi Prisons (Ribadu Road, Ikoyi, Lagos), following his arraignment before Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of Federal High Court, Ikoyi, on Friday, February 10, 2017, on 39-count charge of defrauding forex traders.

And the estranged lover of Nollywood star actress Toyin Aimakhu (now addressed as Abraham) is still living large, receiving numerous visitors and eating homemade meals brought by family members everyday.

Arraigned for defrauding bureau de change operators of N40.647 million, $29,800 and  £4,815 between August 2015 and February 2, 2017, Egbeegbe and his accomplice (Ayomide Oyekan) were remanded in Ikoyi Prisons…and the 40 year old father of two children and husband of two wives is struggling to bluff his way through the ordeal of being an inmate awaiting trial.

An insider at the prison told Encomium Weekly, “He was brought in here on Friday, February 10. And for more than a week, he refused to shave.

“He’s in a general cell meant for inmates awaiting trial.  There are about 50 of them in the cell which is congested.

“He’s not getting any special treatment from prison officials. But he’s making the best of his ordeal. He’s allowed to change clothes as often as he wants. And he receives a lot of visitors, especially family and friends. Even his wife has been here on many occasions.

“Most of his meals are homemade, brought by his family.  But at times, he eats prison food (of N200 per inmate per day).

“Seun is coping well. He is allowed to come out of his cell in the morning and evening to exercise like every other inmate.

“Visitors are allowed every day from 10 am to 3 pm.”

Tuesday, November 22: the day Seun Egbeegbe notoriety gained momentum
Early in the morning of Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Kaalcech Innovation and Consultancy on 9, Medical Road, Ikeja (Lagos), in the area known as Computer Village, Seun Egbeegbe and an accomplice sauntered in.

According to witnesses, he demanded for 9 iPhone handsets (7 iPhone 6 and two iPhone 7) from the sales boy. As soon as he was given, he made a dash to his car parked across the road.

When the sales boy ran after him, he claimed he had paid. And as he tried to leave, he was accosted by more people. After the initial interrogation by passersby, he was battered and bloodied.

He was eventually taken to leaders of the market who saved him from the mob.

Meanwhile, only 8 of the handsets were recovered as his accomplice reportedly fled with one. Eventually, he landed at Area F Police Command in GRA Ikeja where he claimed he was going to pay for the phones with money in the car or from Access Bank.

After investigation, he was arraigned on Thursday, November 24, 2016, for theft.

Well wishers and parents thronged his Ikeja home on Saturday, November 26, 2016

On Saturday, November 26, following reports of suicide and remand in Kirikiri Prisons, we visited the controversial socialite at his Gbemisola Street, Ikeja (Lagos), 3-bedroom apartment where he was hosting family, friends and well wishers.

He debunked the tale that he was remanded in prison custody, claiming he came home on the day of his arraignment. He also rubbished the suicide and hospitalisation rumours. His parents were in the flat as dozens rejoiced.

Shortly after, he was reported to have travelled to Malaysia…but when we saw him on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at the Olofa of Ofa’s victory party at Combo Hall, LTV 8, Agidingbi in Ikeja (Lagos), he claimed he didn’t travel anywhere.

And the next thing was the forex fraud of Thursday, February 2, and his remand at Ikoyi Prisons (originally built to accommodate 500 inmates but has over 2,700!).

Seun Egbeegbe gets bail with stringent conditions

Serial suspect, Seun Egbeegbe was granted bail on Friday, February 24, 2017, by Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of Federal High Court in Ikoyi (Lagos) in the advance fee fraud case. But he will remain in Ikoyi Prisons until he perfects the stringent bail conditions.

Along with his accomplice (Ayomide Oyekan), he was granted bail of N5 million with two sureties (N2.5 million each).

One of the sureties must be a civil servant on level 16 who will submit his passport.

The other must have property in Lagos metropolis, and submit the certificate of occupancy.

Both must have their addresses at home and office verified.

Smiling after the bail ruling, the movie and music promoter (Alhaji Olanrewaju Oluwaseun Olasunkanmi Kazeem) may leave prison early this week.

He was docked on Friday, February 10, following his arrest on Thursday, February 2 at Gbagada General Hospital where he was accused of swindling two bureau de change operators of $9,000 and £3,000.

During investigation, over 30 forex traders reportedly turned up alleging that he defrauded them of huge sums totaling over N40 million, $29,800 and £4,815 from August 2015 till February 2, 2017.

His case was worsened as he’s still standing trial in the nine iPhone handsets theft case of Tuesday, November 22, 2016. He was arrested at Computer Village in Ikeja with the phones, beaten and bloodied, and eventually arraigned on Thursday, November 24, 2016.

He was to appear at the Magistrate court on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, for the theft case… but it was adjourned to April 12, since he was in custody of the Police for the forex swindle.

7 quick facts about Seun Egbeegbe

The music and movie promoter, now facing two trials, became notorious as his penchant for dating actresses became public knowledge. His liaison with popular Nollywood star actress Toyin Aimakhu and their public spat catapulted his notoriety.

Here are 7 quick facts about the 40 year old socialite from Abeokuta (Ogun state):

1.  His interest in movies resulted in bankrolling Ebony Alhaja in 1996 with a N50,000 loan from his mother.
He soon followed with another movie, Igbayi Lola.

2.  He also began promoting musicians, and at a time he had Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and Lanre Atorise Teriba under his wings..

3.  He claimed he dated Toyin Aimakhu for 15 years before she got married. Both rekindled their romance after her troubled marriage (to Adeniyi Johnson) packed up. They later separated in a bitter spat which had to be moderated by the Lagos Commissioner of Police (Fatai Owoseni).

4.  Egbeegbe has two wives and two children. And one of the wives is a nurse in the United Kingdom. The other wife lives in Nigeria.

5.  He has five cars (a Range Rover, a Mercedes Benz, Toyota Avensis and Toyota Solara…)

6.  His Ebony Films Production office is in Balogun area of Ikeja, while his three-bedroom flat is on Gbemisola Street (near Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s Kalakuta Republic now turned into a museum).

7.  Egbeegbe is not a kleptomaniac as the two cases against him show well-plotted schemes.
Kleptomania is the stealing of nonsensical objects, usually perpetrated as opportunities present themselves, by a patient with mental health issues who really doesn’t need the items pilfered.

Seun Egbegbe arrested on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Gbagada General Hospital
Alhaji Kazeem Olanrewaju Oluwaseun Olasunkanmi (also known as Olajide Kareem) was arrested on Thursday, February 2, at Gbagada General Hospital after he was nabbed by bureau de change operators and passersby as he tried to flee after an alleged swindle.

He reportedly lured two forex traders to the hospital where he posed as a doctor and his accomplice pretended to be a patient who needed forex.

They were said to have obtained $9,000 and £3,000 from two bureau de change operators (Alhaji Isa Adamu and Abdullahi Haruna). And luckily, they were caught as they attempted to flee.

First taken to Ogudu Area Command, both were transferred to Lagos Police Command in Ikeja where they spent a week until their arraignment on Friday, February 10.

As investigations intensified, more bureau de change operators came forward to list monumental fraud cases against the owner of Ebony Films Production (which he started in 1996 with a N50,000 loan from his mother). Over 30 different incidents of forex fraud were recorded from his accusers.

And now he’s facing charges under the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act of 2006.

Battles for bail as trial is set for March 10

The fraud trial against Seun Egbeegbe and his accomplice (Ayomide Oyekan) is billed to begin on March 10 at Federal High Court 8 before Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo. But there is a battle to get bail for the accused serial suspect before then.

On Friday, February 24, the court admitted the socialite to bail with stringent conditions. And as he struggles to perfect his bail, a long trial confronts him as he wrestles with the monumental allegations.

Case of 9 iPhone handsets adjourned to April 12

The iPhone handsets theft case before Mrs. Y.O. Aje Afunwa of Ikeja Magistrate Court (Rosaline Omotoso Court) is scheduled to be heard again on April 12, 2017, at the instance of the Police.

Set to be heard on February 8, it was adjourned because of the investigation in the forex fraud case as Egbeegbe was still in police custody.

Facing a three year jail term if convicted under sections 278, 284 and 285 in chapter 28 of Lagos Criminal Laws of 2011, he was first arraigned for the theft of the phones valued at N2.4 million on Thursday, November 24, 2016.

He was lucky to be granted bail. And while still enjoying the bail, the forex case crept in.
