How SUPO SASORE emerged Lagos governorship aspirant

FACTS have emerged on how Mr. Supo Sasore, the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State emerged as one of the governorship aspirants of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Supo Sasore is one of the nine aspirants that is said to have paid the N500,000 for expression of interest form and probably the N5 million for the nomination form.

ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered that Mr. Supo Sasore is being promoted by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola as his successor in place of Dr. Femi Hamzat who he had earlier prompted and supported.   Governor Fashola was said to have individually invited all the party governorship aspirants to the State House, Marina on Monday, September 22, 2014.  According to source, the governor did not tell the aspirants why he invited them but when they met that Monday in the cosy sitting room of the State House, they knew it must be in connection with their ambition to replace him in the State House.

The governor was said to have called them one after the other into a private room and interviewed them on every aspect of governance in the state, particularly in the areas of taxation.  The aspirants who were present at that governorship interview on that Monday, September 22, 2014, were Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly; Senator Ganiyu Olarenwaju Solomon, the Senate Minority Whip; Dr. Femi Hamzat, the Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure in the State; Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Accountant General of the State; Dr. Leke Pitan, former Commissioner of Health and later Education in the State; Dr. Tola Kasali, the former Commissioner for Rural Development and later Health in the State and Senator Gbenga Ashafa, the incumbent senator representing Lagos East Senatorial district.

After the interview, the governor was said to have submitted the list of the aspirants according to their performance to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the party and former governor of the state.

According to our source, top on the list of the name of aspirants submitted by the governor to Asiwaju Tinubu was the name Mr. Supo Sasore who other aspirants did not see at the Monday, September 22, 2014, interview at the State House, Marina.

Whether Asiwaju Tinubu will agree with the choice of the governor despite being from the same Lagos Central Senatorial district with Fashola is one issue that will determine the success of the party governorship primary in the state.

Many are of the opinion that Governor Fashola has always favoured Mr. Supo Sasore with one appointment or the other since he was forced to drop him from his cabinet by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in his second term (2011).
