Thugs infiltrated the Teslim Balogun Stadium (Surulere, Lagos) venue of the primaries for chairmanship candidates in the 57 local government and development areas in Lagos… and beat Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi with hockey sticks.
The thugs, who sneaked into the venue, harassed and beat the All Progressives Congress’ primaries chairman, following their annoyance over the conduct of Surulere elections.
The delegates for Surulere had objected to a voice vote and endorsement of a candidate favoured by the party (Tajudeen Ajide, a one term local government chairman who was impeached).
They wanted election into the position…but Afikuyomi kept telling them to be patient as he rescheduled the slot for Surulere. He went ahead with the other elections, which also were done by voice votes.
Yaba also had a disagreement with the primaries panel, and delegates from there were also told to wait. Their slot was rescheduled too.
While the voice votes for other candidates were on, thugs started sneaking in. And after about over 30 endorsements of candidates from the local government and council development areas, pandemonium broke. Shouts of election, not endorsement rent the air.
And in no time, the thugs pounced on Afikuyomi with all sorts of objects, including hockey sticks. His top was shredded, and with bare torso, he had to be led by security men out of the venue…
