‘My parents are not too strict, they supported me’

On Saturday, October 24, 2015, Calabar the capital city of Cross River State, the Nation’s Paradise hosted the 2015 edition of the most prestigious beauty pageant in Nigeria, Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) at the ultra modern Calabar International Conference Centre.

The colourful ceremony had on display Nigeria’s rich culture, tradition and values. Raves of the moment artistes were on standby to entertain guests who travelled from far and near to witness the event. ENCOMIUM Weekly brings to the table happenstances from the event. THE OPENING CEREMONY

The event kicked off with an electric dance moves from all the contestants. They were garbed in their traditional costumes according to their states. The damsels gave special traditional steps peculiar to the state they were representing. The beautiful contestants wore enchanting smiles that were beautiful to behold.

 

HOW THE JOURNEY BEGAN

The journey to the crowning of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria started in August 2015. The screening saw no fewer than 33 girls selected across states in Nigeria for the biggest beauty pageant in Nigeria.

Only Nigerians by birth and between ages 18 and 23 years were eligible for the competition. This year’s screening kicked off on August 18, 2015, at Neocourts Hospitality, New Haven, Enugu, Enugu State.

Screening also held in Rivers and Lagos states as well. 37 eloquent and most captivating ladies emerged after the screening. The girls slugged it out in the final competition held on Saturday, October 24, 2015.

 

THE HOSTS

There were two hosts. Popular TV host, Vixen Yvonne Ekwere and Chris Okenwa. They played dutiful anchors and kept guests entertained throughout the show.

The hosts had a special Calabar traditional costume made specially for them by the Mother of the Day, Senator (Princess) Ita Giwa.

They wore the costume while the opening ceremony was ongoing but, the duo later changed into an evening wear. Yvonne had a red glittering evening gown on, well embellished with precious stones, while Chris was garbed in neatly cut black suit.

 

THE MOST COVETED PRIZE

Winner of The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2015 went home with a brand new car. She got an annual salary and a chance to represent Nigeria at Miss World Pageant.

The first runner up will represent Nigeria at Miss Universe pageant and the second runner up will represent Nigeria at the Miss Eco pageant.

 

THE TALL USHERS

Beautiful, tall ladies stood at the entrance of Calabar International Conference Centre, venue of the 2015 edition of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant. They were dressed in green floor sweeping gowns.

Welcoming guest as they entered the conference centre. Numbering up to 10, they made sure guests were well taken care of and comfortably seated.

 

CONTESTANT’S NEW DANCE STEPS

The 37 contestants, sure had a nice time camping. The intelligent contestants showcased the new version of Shoki and Shakiti Bobo’s dance steps. They danced to the melodious rhythm of Kiss Daniel’s hit song Laye.

They were all garbed in green to reflect the theme of this year’s pageant Climate Change. The guests were held spell bound for the few minutes the contestants spent on the stage.  Roaring applause didn’t stop until all the contestants got off the stage.

 

WHEN THE GOVERNOR WALKED IN

The Governor of Cross Rivers State, Senator Ben Ayade strolled into the venue with a retinue of aides.

For the aides no one would believe it was the governor. Simply but neatly dressed in a navy blue and red T-shirt and black trousers, he was really looking young and fresh.

Speaking about his dress sense for the evening, the governor said, “I am dressed this way to take away the stress and look younger again.” Of course, the magic worked.

 

ARTISTES WHO PERFORMED

Sekem  crooner, Mc Galaxy and Woju exponent, Kiss Daniel stole the show with wonderful performances.

Mc Galaxy performed with so much energy that earned him thunderous applause from the overwhelmed crowd. He wore a green suit and white shirt.

Kiss Daniel also thrilled with his hit songs, Laye and Woju. Kiss Daniel kept beauty queens at the event on their feet for a long time dancing. His black signature hat was perfect for the evening. He wore a black suit and white shirt.

The guests couldn’t hold back their excitement as Kiss Daniel took over the stage.

 

HOW THE WINNER EMERGED

The judges ensured the best girl emerged the winner. After a lot of deliberation and assessment by the judges, the girls were screened from 37 to 15 contestants. Miss Delta, Anambra, Abuja, Ekiti, Edo, Osun, Borno, Ebonyi, Cross River, Benue, Zamfara, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Kano, Katsina made it to the next stage .

Some were eventually dropped at the semi final and only five contestants made it to the final stage. Miss Anambra, Miss Edo, Miss Bauchi, Miss Abuja and Miss Ebonyi made the top five contestants.

Each contestant was asked questions to show their level of intelligence, eloquence and how well they took instructions while in camp.

 

WHO WON WHAT

21 year old Unoaku Anyadike clinched the coveted crown at the hotly contested competition emerging the MBGN, 2015. Unoaku Anyadike represented Anambra state.

23 year old Debbie Collins emerged the first runner up. She was named MBGN Universe. She represented Ebonyi State.

Chizoba Ejike was the second runner up. She emerged MBGN Tourism. She represented Abuja.

Chikaodilu Nnaudosen won the third place.

She represented Bauchi state.

Cynthia Sapara was the fourth runner up. She represented Edo state. Chinenye Mojekwu, Miss Katsina won the best evening wear award. Ugochi Uzuike representing Miss Yobe won Miss Amity Award.

Oluwadamilola Hassan representing Borno state won Top Model. Chidinma Ejiogu representing Niger state won Best Traditional Wear.

Miss Charismatic went to Debbie Collins of Ebonyi State, while Obianuju Ndubuisi, representing Gombe state won Miss Photogenic.
