How Yusuf Salisu got Super Eagles Job : 8 important highlights of his career

Barely 24 hours after news of Paul Le Guen’s rejection of the Super Eagles job filled the air, the Nigeria Football Federation in a desperate move has named former assistant coach Salisu Yusuf as the new Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, after its executive committee meeting on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, in Abuja.

Salisu Yusuf will also head the home based Eagles and will work with Mr. Imama Amakapabo as the Assistant Coach and Mr. Alloy Agu as Goalkeepers’ Trainer.

In the meantime, the hunt for a Technical Adviser continues following Mr. Paul Le Guen refusal to agree to the terms of the NFF which includes accepting given targets, living  in Nigeria and working with the assistants given to him.

Part of the communiqué released after the meeting reads : “Executive Committee instructed the Technical and Development Sub-Committee to, within the next seven days, recommend a candidate for the post of Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles…

“The Committee noted that it was the desire to show transparency that made the Technical and Development Sub-Committee to make public its recommendation in the first place.”

Here are 8 important highlights of Salisu’s career

  1. Salisu Yusuf was born in the year 1962 in Zaria, Kaduna State.
  2. As a footballer he played the midfield role for Maiduguri’s El-Kanemi Warriors and Ranchers Bees in Kaduna.
  3. He assisted Samson Siasia twice between 2010 and 2011.
  4. Salisu Yusuf has coached Kano Pillars and Lobi Stars.
  5. He replaced Austine Eguavoen as head coach of Eyimba football club on November 2012.
  6. He was assistant to Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh and Samson Siasia over the last one year.
  7. He was appointed as the interim coach on Wednesday, April 21, 2016.
  8. He won two friendlies games against Mali and Luxembourg as interim coach on May 27, 2016 and May 31, 2016 respectively.
