Nollywood reigning queen and CEO, Glitters and Glamour Company, Banke Adewunmi, has quashed the tale that she is savouring a juicy romance with a Lekki, Lagos based oil baron whose name is under wraps. She added that the tale lacked merit and is uncalled for.
She further described it as nothing but spurious and non-sagacious, labeling those sponsoring it as jobless rumour mongers.
Speaking with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Sunday, August 3, 2014, the gorgeous and talented role interpreter expressed discomfort about the tale, calling on those behind it to desist from any act calculated at maligning her growing image and career. She equally advised the public to ignore such a malicious and frivolous information.
“In the first place, who is the oil baron they’re talking about? Don’t I have the right to move around or work wherever I want to? After all, I live in Ikoyi, Lagos, I don’t live in Lekki. The only thing is that I was for a while frequent at that axis because I was shooting a movie there and immediately we finished the movie, I went back to my base in Ikoyi.
“After few days, I was invited for another job in Festac, which I just completed. Any moment from now, I am leaving for United States of America to also shoot a movie. So, I don’t know why people take delight in unnecessary gossips. They must say something about you when they discover you’re on your way to stardom. Can’t I work anywhere I like? Am I not a Nigerian? Maybe because I was sighted at Lekki, does that mean I am dating a man there? People should just ignore that information, please.
“I don’t have any oil baron footing my bills. But I don’t mind if they want to give me one (laugh).
“I believe those behind such a useless and malicious rumour don’t have any meaningful job. That’s why they have all the time for rubbish. It’s frivolous and false.”
Probed further on who is behind her enormous fortunes, the Ilaro, Ogun born thespian reacted: “I don’t think that’s necessary again. Everybody knows I am a very hard working person. And I have been in business since I was in the university, counting my millions. Not only that, I had my major break in business long ago. And till date, I am still in the business doing wonderfully. I only chose to act because it’s my first love, not because of money. But if money comes, fine. I am not in a hurry about that.
“I don’t want to sound arrogant, I am from a very comfortable background. I have wealthy parents and they don’t joke with their children. My outfit, Glitters and Glamour is doing well, my business is flourishing. I travel often to buy my stuffs, including wears and creams, and I make cool money from everything I deal in. I give glory to God.
“If you’re hard working and you’re enjoying the fruit of your labour, is there any crime in that? So, no man behind my success but God Almighty in whom I have found favour.”
Asked if she could act nude, she said “For what purpose would that be? I can’t do that for any reason. Even if I am offered N5 billion, I can’t go nude in any movie. Apart from the fact that it’s anti-African, my mother will disown me if I do that. It’s rubbish and stupid. I can’t go nude for whatever purpose.”
