‘I didn’t marry Okon Lagos because he’s rich and famous’ – Idara Saviour Umoh (2)

PRETTY Idara Saviour is a third year student of Communication Arts, University of Uyo.  In her early 20s, she has since become Mrs. Ime ‘Bishop’ Umoh.  ENCOMIUM Weekly recently chatted her up in Abuja, FCT, where she told us their love story and the reason she has vowed to spend the rest of her life with the popular comic thespian whose iconic roles as Okon in Okon Lagos and Okon Goes to School have been widely applauded.

How does it feel to be married to one of the most popular entertainers in the country?

I feel very happy.  I think I’m blessed as well.  It’s a blessing to get married to a man like Ime ‘Bishop’ Umoh.

How did your path cross?

We met at a wedding where he was the Master of Ceremonies.  I was in the bridal train.  After the ceremony, we had a chat and exchanged phone numbers.  That was how it all started.

What year was that?

That was November, 2012.

At what point did you realize you’ve met your husband?

We were first regular friends last year, but by February, we started dating.  By the time he proposed to me in March, I knew he was serious.

What would you say was the attraction?  Was it because he is rich, famous and funny?

It was not really about his popularity.  I think it’s his character which matters most to me.

And how has it been so far?

We thank God.  He has been faithful.  I believe He will continue to be with us.

What is the sweetest thing about being married?

I think married life is the best thing to ever happen to me.  I’m so happy I’m married.

You are still in the university?

Yes.  I am in the University of Uyo.  I am a third year student of Communication Arts.

Are you ready to start making babies now or whenever it comes?

If it comes, am I not married? (laughs)

How many kids are you guys looking at?

Four, two boys and two girls.

Does your husband make jokes for you at home?

Yes.  He makes me happy.  If you are with him, you would be laughing and smiling all the time.

Does Okon Lagos ever get serious at home?

Of course, he acts like a normal person.

You guys had to postpone your honeymoon because of your school and his work. Where would you be honeymooning, when you are ready?

We are planning to go to the United Kingdom for our honeymoon.

What is your relationship with your parents in-law?

It’s very cordial.  I have been well received and accepted.

Where are you from?

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.  My husband is from Nsit Ubium also in Akwa Ibom State.

What is your prayer for this marriage?

My prayer is for God to be with us and continue to bless our marriage.

What is the best advice you have been given so far?

To be submissive to my husband.  And I will continue to love him because without love, our marriage wouldn’t work.

Okon Lagos is well known and admired by a lot of women, especially his fans.  How would you cope with this?

I will cope.  I see him as a star and a celebrity.  I know that people are looking unto him for inspiration, especially the young ones.  So, they must have their way.  And I should be able to trust my husband.
