Keira Newatch, as she is popularly known, graduated from The Graduate School of Management Studies, to study Travel and Tourism in Ghana. How did acting start for you?

Acting became a profession for me in 2006 in Ghana. I continued to pursue it when I got back to Lagos in 2007.

How has been the journey so far?

It’s been a difficult journey in the sense that it has taken hard work, patience and perseverance to get here. But in all, I thank God.

What are the pains and gains of being an actress?

I no longer have access to complete privacy which is a little difficult because I’m a very private person. But the flip side is that I get to do what I love.

What has kept you going?

The love and the passion for my craft kept me going even when I thought I might quit it completely.

Who are your influences in the industry, who inspires you?

I get inspired every day, life, circumstances, people… they inspire me all the time. And in the industry I am inspired by people who reinvent themselves everyday to stay relevant.

Is there anybody you are trying to pattern your kind of acting after?

No. I do not believe in imitating another person. I believe that one can learn from another person but not trying to be like him. Everyone is unique and I love who I am as an actor, not trying to be like anyone else but myself.

Tell us some of the movies you have featured?

Kajola, Two brides and a baby, Murder at prime suites, Lies men tell, After the Proposal, Couple’s game, Lekki wives series…

Is the business really profitable, how are things with you?

Every business grows with time, and it’s taken quite a while for it to turn a profit but I’m glad that has changed in recent years. So, I’m thankful to God for that.

What will you do to ensure you don’t get bored acting?

I never get bored with my work because it’s what I love to do. There’s a saying ‘If you love your job, you don’t have to get out of bed in the morning to go to work’.

Have you wanted to do acting from childhood?

Yes. From the age of 5.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

That’s easy, producing and directing.

Apart from acting, what else do you do?

I’m a script writer. I also have a creative mind which I put to use brainstorming ideas for just about anything.

What does love mean to you?

Putting someone else’s needs above your own.

Tell us about your love life?

My love life is pretty boring and nonexistent right now. I’m too busy building an empire! (laughs).

Tell us what you are working on now?

I have some soon to be released projects. These include In the music starring Brian Okwara and Omawumi Magbele. The Perfect Plan with Joseph Benjamin and Ini Edo.

I recently completed the filming on a two cast project which stars Seun Akindele tentatively entitled Playing with fire.

Describe yourself in a sentence?

I am a serious minded and dedicated actor who is passionate about her craft and is definitely an actor with a difference.
