‘I was not sacked, I resigned voluntarily’ – Toyin Abdul, GM, LASPPA

Mr. , the immediate past General Manager of Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority has denied being sacked by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode over the issue of Lekki Gardens Estate collapsed building.

Mr. Abdul, in an exclusive interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly said he was neither retired nor resigned. But rather he resigned his appointment few days ago.

He said he could not have been sacked because he retired from Lagos state civil service three years ago. He went further to say that he was later appointed on contract and it was from that appointment that he resigned few days ago.

ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered that Mr. Toyin Abdul was summoned by the Head of Service, HOS, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola and told that the governor wanted him to resign and he had no choice but to comply.

Mr. Abdul will only miss his monthly personal emolument and other allowances. His monthly salary, we gathered, would be in the region of N750,000 being a contract staff.

He will also enjoy other allowances like fuel allowance which is about N100,000 to N150,000 monthly, office running cost of about N100,000 to N120,000 monthly, entertainment allowance of N25,000 to N50,000.

Since he had retired from public service before being appointed, his pension entitlement of between N10 million and N15 million (if he spent up to 35 years in service before retirement) will be intact. If, he had not collected it already.

ENCOMIUM Weekly had a telephone chat with Toyin Abdul…

Am I speaking with Mr. Toyin Abdul?

Yes, please.

The General Manager of Lagos State Physical Planning Authority?

Yes, sir.

Is it true that you were also affected by the Lekki Gardens building collapse?

I have been affected like how?

That you have been compulsorily retired?

I retired over three years ago. Then they appointed me on contract from where I resigned some days ago. I wasn’t affected by the Lekki Gardens issue. You can check with the State Head of Service and Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development to give you the details.

What you are saying, sir is that you resigned, not that you were asked to go by the government?

I resigned. How can they ask me to go? It’s either they retire you or they terminate your appointment.
