‘I will reclaim my stolen mandate’ – Omisore vows

THE flagbearer of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Saturday, August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun State, Otunba Iyiola Omisore has maintained his stance of reclaiming his alleged stolen mandate from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), no matter how long it takes.

Omisore, who insisted he was robbed of victory at the poll told ENCOMIUM Weekly on Sunday, October 26, 2014, via his media aide, Mr. Diran Odeyemi that no matter how far the winner of the election and governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and APC might have gone, he would, one day, overtake them; when all the legal processes about the matter are completed.

“We have been vindicated by two courts – Federal High Court, Osogbo, Osun State and the Appeal Court, Akure, Ondo State.  With these alone, it’s evident that Aregbesola and APC will soon be sent packing from Osun State.  Our stance is that Ambassador Toyin Akeju lacked moral justification to conduct any election in the state because we have found out that he is a card carrying member of APC.  Not only that, he also has an intimate rapport with the leader of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.  That’s why the party was able to perpetrate all the malpractices in the 2011 general elections in the state and even in the Saturday, August 9, 2014 governorship election which fraudulently returned Aregbesola as the governor of the state.  But now, the reason for our unrelenting struggle to deliver the people of Osun State has been justified.  We thank God for the judiciary that has nullified all the elections conducted by Akeju.  And we also believe that the Supreme Court will uphold the judgement of the lower courts.

“Although, it may take a long time, no matter how long it takes, the most important thing is victory, which we’re sure of.”

Reacting to this, an APC chieftain, Mr. Wole Adegbenjo said, “I have said it many times, Omisore and the entire PDP in Osun State are only wasting their time and resources.  No matter how hard they fight, there is no stolen mandate anywhere for them to reclaim.  The judgement they are referring to has nothing to do with the victory of Aregbesola. If at all, the Supreme Court says that a fresh election should be conducted in the state, Aregbesola will still defeat Omisore.  So, what are we saying?

“The judgement they’re rejoicing about was delivered in Akure.  It was not known to anybody except Omisore and PDP.  You can see the danger that it portends for our nascent democracy.”

Also, the Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of APC, Osun State, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi was earlier reported by a national daily to have reacted, “This is a very funny development.  A judgement of that magnitude and importance to our democratic culture was to be delivered in Akure was unknown to anybody except Omisore’s PDP.

“Media correspondents in Akure only got the news of the so-called judgement from Omisore’s office in Osogbo.  Something terribly sinister is going on here.”

Efforts to get across to Director of Bureau De Publicity to Aregbesola, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon were futile as all the calls put through his mobile phone were ignored.  We also sent him a text which reads, “Good morning sir.  This is Tade Asifat from ENCOMIUM Weekly.  We just want your reaction to Omisore’s claim that he has been vindicated by the Appeal Court judgement of Friday, October 11, 2014, and that he will reclaim his stolen mandate from Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, no matter who long it takes.  Thanks and have a wonderful day.”

However, this was not replied as at press time.

Meanwhile, on Friday, October 11, 2014, the Appeal Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State upheld the judgement of Federal High Court, Osogbo, Osun State which disqualified REC, Akeju to conduct the elections in the state.

Akeju and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which got dissatisfied by the ruling headed to Appeal Coutr in Akure, Ondo State.

The case which was decided by a five-man panel, presided over by Justice Shella, rejected the appeal saying that the notice of appeal was not properly filed, and that the entire process was therefore null and void.
