Vincent Jidechukwu Onwe is a young DJ whose choice of career was inspired out of frustration from many quack DJ’s when he was a hip hop artiste. Speaking with ENCOMIUM Weekly, DJ Klincy, as he is popularly known, told us what makes one a good DJ and how he is working hard to perform with the best DJ in the world and work with versatile dancehall music maker, Flavour and a host of other popular artistes.
How did the journey into your career begin?
It all started out of nothing in the street while I was a hip hop artiste.
What inspired your choice of career?
Generally, music. While I was a hip hop artiste so many quack DJ’s frustrated me. They just refused to play my songs.
What drives you as an individual?
Anything I do, I work hard to get at the top.
How long have you been a DJ?
Five years and four years as a professional.
What are the challenges peculiar to your work?
The problem of power at an event and discrimination at Deejay’s Association of Nigeria (DJAN)
How do you handle them?
I go with my own power supply.
How do you describe a good DJ?
As a good Dj, you and the mood of your audience and get the crowd dancing at least within 10 minutes.
How did you get your stage name DJ Klincy?
It’s a pet name from my friends due to my personal hygiene.
What is your greatest strength and weakness?
Cheers from fans and crowd is my greatest strength and poor sound set is my greatest weakness.
Can you tell us about your educational background.
I’am just a fresh graduate, my growing up was a lot of fun because I grew up in a family that respects God and love music a lot.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I work hard to see myself at the top in five years, perform with the best DJ’s in the world, do some work with some of Nigeria’s popular artistes like PSquare, Flavour, Wizkid, Phyno, Dj Jimmy Jatt, etc.
