Ibadan kingship tussle: ‘We won’t revert to status quo’

Ajimobi_-_Ouluibadan

– Governor Ajimobi thunders

Oyo governor, Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi has maintained his stance on the installation of 21 new Obas in Ibadan. He insisted there’s no logical reason reverting to status quo as being canvassed by some natives of the ancient city.

Speaking with encomium.ng today, Wednesday, October 11, 2017, via his Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Yomi Olayinka, the gap-toothed politician expressed total disappointment about the way some he described as mischief makers have chosen to politicise the issue. He, however, declared that Olubadan remains the father of all Ibadan people, including himself.

“Apart from the few mischief makers who have chosen to politicise the issue, stakeholders have consistently endorsed the government’s action. Just for the records: eight out of nine members of Ibadan in Council are in support, scores of obas and baales, the CCII and Ibadan Elders Forum and others, all public requested for the review. So, there’s no logical reason to revert to status quo.

“And be rest assured that there’s no crisis here in Ibadan. Only some little misunderstanding perpetuated by failed politicians. And that’s being resolved.

“His Imperial Majesty, Olubadan remains unquestionably the preeminent monarch of Ibadan land . He also remains the father of all Ibadan people, including and especially the governor.”

Meanwhile, the installation of the new traditional rulers held weeks back has been generating heated arguments from different quarters of Yoruba land with the majority criticizing Ajimobi, describing his action as outright perversion of the tradition  of Ibadan land aimed at spiting Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji which can in turn lead to break down of law and order in the long run if it’s not properly handled.
