ID Ogungbe, My Lagos, ‘ If you see the aerial view of Lagos, you’ll know that it’s really beautiful’

What did you expect? The professor lives on the streets of Lagos!

Where do you live in Lagos and why?

I can’t tell you where I live. I am on the streets of Lagos all the time.

What’s your earliest Lagos experience?

Experience…men! This is huge. I was coming from Ijebu Ode, and I was like, see road. How many lanes be dis one? It was like I was in New York. I was at the freeway Ikorodu road. I loved it. The streetlights worked. But that was a long time ago.

When did you start living permanently in Lagos?

Maybe six years ago.

What do you like most about Lagos?

The people of Lagos, the Lagosians, the traffic, I love it.

What do you hate most about Lagos?

The traffic that litters everywhere. But Lagos is beautiful. If you see the aerial view of Lagos, you’ll know that it’s really beautiful. There’s no city like this in Africa and it’s not just a hype… even when our friends come, they say wow, look at this bridge, you know it’s the longest in Africa? So, just imagine if it’s lit up all the time. Our people should even do more movies with that bridge. But it’s only that the helicopter is quite high. But nothing beats that view from above.

What do you miss most when you’re outside Lagos?

My family.

Who’s your favourite Lagos celebrity?

My friend, Aliko (Dangote).

What’s your favourite Lagos hangout?

Ogbe Stadium, it’s in Ikoyi.

Where do you shop in Lagos?

My wife can answer that.

How do you move around Lagos?

In a car. I have two company cars. Both are Mercedes Benz.

Which other city are you attached to apart from Lagos?

Maybe Abuja.

What new projects are you working on at the moment?

This year, we’re going to be doing a lot of promotions. But this time out, we need to finish the Street Challenge, which is kicking off on Monday for ten days. And after that, at the end of February, we jump on the next project. It’s called Fill It Cup. Let’s not let the cat out of the bag, but it’s called Operation Fill It Up. Once it hits in March, the streets will be all about Fill It Up. Even big boys will run to fill it up. You know about the Street Challenge which is too much fun, so imagine something which is much more fun. So, that’s the next level, to borrow Kwame’s term.
